Wouldn't it get boring as hell if everyday was perfect peace and you lived forever? It sounds good for a moment but think about it....everyday sunshine and lolipops, not trials, no tribulations, no strife.

How would we know that things were good if they were never bad?

I hate to be sick but I always appreicate my health so much more after I'm sick. And when I'm broke , I always appreciate prosperity so much when I come out of the hole. And isn't a good nights sleep so wonderful after a few days of little sleep?

It would be nice if the were no wars, no catastrophic diseases, mo muders, rapes or molestions. But I like a good (not ugly) argument now and then, and a few days in bed with a cold means rest, relax and mend.

If you lived for ever how long would it be before life became mundane and empty?

I mean, is life not about balancing the good with the bad?

Kind of a werid thought I know, but I'm tired...didn't get much sleep last night. So, I think I'll go take a nap. Now, won't that be lovely?

Re: Wouldn't it be really boring?
When you're in robust good health, do you wish you were sick? Do you miss being sick? When you're happy, do you wish you were depressed? Do you miss being unhappy and wishing you were dead? When you're not angry, do you miss your anger? Do you wish you were angry? The Christian hell makes no sense, of course. How could any good person be happy in a heaven knowing that billions still suffered terribly in a hell? Or if one was not aware of others suffering, how could that be a real heaven? The Buddhists vow to try to relieve suffering so long as even one still suffers. I don't know what nirvana is like, but I know something of equanimity, and it's not boring, it just makes it possible to help those who are unhappy without my being myself unhappy. If there were none left unhappy, though, I'm not sure what I'd do. Just groove?

But have you ever seen the movie "Pleasantville"? It seems there can be "too much of a good thing". I mean, isn't it all about balance? Finding a road somewhere inbetween the two?

If you drink to much water you die, and if you drink to little water..you die. If you breathe to much air you die and if you breathe to little air you die.

Sometimes standing up for what you believe in can feel so good! Or coming to the defense of someone in trouble, helping someone who is in need, being a shoulder for someone to cry on, realizing someone made an effort to help you ect. There are so many good things that are birthed from bad situations.

I think I'm the kind of girl who needs a little pepper along with her salt!

Oh nothing , everything is fine. So what have you been up to? Baking cookies, planting flowers and making pot holders, how about you? Oh, I've been learning to sew. How's that going?...Oh, its been going fine.

Boredom is serenity misunderstood.

Whether we enjoy it is all dependant on which perspective we take! (and I guess any needs for one extreeme or the other, depending on how life's been)

Re: Wouldn't it be really boring?
If it was perfect, the feeling of boredom, or need for meaning wouldn't even exist, we wouldn't have a concept of it, because any negative feeling is an imperfection itself - esp if it makes you want things to be bad

Yeah...call me twisted ( and some folks do) but a little drama can be exciting.

If the sun always shines and everyday was bright and warm, I would miss the clouds. And a thunder storm can take your breathe away (for good if you get zapped!LOL!) And how I would miss the rain!

I would be happy to have no more wars, peace between countries, no starvation, hurricanes etc...you know the extremes. But a little discomfort is ok...it lets me know I'm alive!

Food tastes so much better when I'm hungry!

Re: Wouldn't it be really boring?
lol The contrast thing's actually a surprisingly common thought! Hopefully there's a way to be able to fully appreciate the good without bad stuff needing to happen - because I don't like the thought that in order to continue to enjoy good stuff, bad stuff needs to happen - because even when I've gone through enough to appreciate the good it still might not happen to balance the bad, and if enough bad happened that I resorted to not caring, I wouldn't get the same enjoyment if good happened.

I like to hope that, although bad does make us appreciate, the appreciation we've earnt is never lost, so if bad were to stop, life would be mildly pleasent - good even without extreeme ups/downs. I think I've sorta craved settling down, even at 22, because uni totally thrashed my guts out lol - I hope I never have to go through it again! I hope that from that I'll appreciate having free time forever! - to some degree at least
