If we were raised "naked" and everyone were naked, would we know we were naked? (mind you this is supposing a warm climate is present). Would we be more or less body conscious? Would we be as sexually uptight as many are now? Why do we feel the need to be covered?
My grand daughter , when she was little, was always taking off her clothes and running around like a little free spirit.
It took many adults many scoldings to convince her it was a "wrong" thing to do. In her "innocence, she saw no wrong in being naked. She probably would have kissed and hugged boys and girls alike also if we had not told her  not to.
If children were left to their own devices would they have a sense of right and wrong?
Looking for input!

Re: Would we know we were naked?
That is an interesting question.  Naked -- would be just fine I'm certain -- lots of cultures wear few clothes.  However, would we naturally know what is right and wrong?  Very intersting question, I imagine that given a chance a natural type of law would emerge inside us...

Thanks for your reply!
It's funny, but she had no idea what so ever that she shouldn't be dancing around like the free ,uninhibited happy little girl she was!
I fear our twisted religious and moral ideas has made us the uptight, homophobic, nut baskets we are.
Go to Africa and the women are dancing topless with joy much like my grand daughter...without thought or reservation.Children arn't born prejudice. If they never saw them selves in a mirror they would have no idea what color were or whether the were good looking or not.
They would probably just play and dance naked in the sun till the hormones kicked in. iIwonder what would happen then? That might sound silly but if no one ever told then they were "supposed" to pair off "male /female' and make babies and start families .....I wonder what they would do?Hummmm...Would they live in a community or would they "pair off"?

Like a lot of things people decide to be offended by, it wouldn't be an issue if nobody made it an issue, we'd still get turned on by primary+secondary sexual characteristics - but just as we are when clothed. I would like a world where naked was as normal as wearing swimwear! I was thinking "what if people in heaven were naked, uptight christians will be in for a shock!"

Obviously there's some warmth and hygene issues, even safety I guess since clothes stop you getting burned/ injured (wouldn't want to ride my motorbike naked! lol). But I would like it if the only reason people wore clothes was for practicality/comfort.
Mankind invented the uptightness (and false sense of right+wrong) itself, but that was only because human insecurities and embarressment - things that don't need to exist (and if they didn't, sense of right+wrong would naturally be more of an emotionally logical thing)

Re: Would we know we were naked?
By the way, I think part of it also has to do with the unnecessary fear of turning strangers on (I'd take it as a compliment if I turned someone on!), as well as insecure embaressment - things that children are oblivious to till puberty

But if everyone you ever saw was naked you would have seen everything imaginable so it might not phase you at all.

Re: Would we know we were naked?
True, and that's how I'd like it to be, but it started out like that, at the time before clothing existed at all- people might've used clothing at first just for practicality, but at some point people somehow developed embaressment/insecurity over their bodies + wanted to hide the truth with clothing - I think that comparison happens with things we can see anyway - like people compare thier general appearance, though it shouldn't have to be everyone coverring up out of fear or embarressment - people should be ok with expressing their bodies! Really genitals need not be any more embarressing than hands

Re: Would we know we were naked?
Maybe if some of the "mystery" were removed people wouldn't think so much about it.
Of course , this body is staying wrapped up like an enchillada now I'm 50! The world doesn't deserve to have to look at that...ugh!

mhmm!
Bring it on! As a guy, I wouldn't complain, come to think of it I think there might be more road accidents by men drivers who's eyes gravitate towards the female pedestrians!

Hey Zip.....I have a question for you completely unrelated to your entry. From reading your blogs and the various spiritual topics you touch upon, I am curious; why your interest in my writing?

Re: Would we know we were naked?
I'm all about people.People interest me a lot.And what makes people tick really interests me.
Your characters are very interesting. At first Jeremy was dark and scary to me (still not over the duck tape and plastic. But then, we find out he has been abused terribly by the people he should have been able to trust the most!
I always wonder why people believe in God or don't, why their cruel or kind, why they are followers or leaders.
You write in such a way I can't help but feel there is some of you or you desires in Jeremy. It is to real to all be fiction. The quest for true, unselfish love and respect. I think you have beemnhurt also because you too seem to "mistrust' to some degree.
I find it all fascinating!

Re: Would we know we were naked?
I think we would know what is right or wrong. It would be somewhat of a different kind of right and wrong, more in tune with nature's law, not the right and wrong created by geo politics.
