Perhaps, it's just that they are not able to intervene if they did exist? - Like I'da thought if there was an afterlife, our relatives would intervene if they could - so mebbe they just can't? I won't pretend to think any being/god could be all powerful, especially if we have free will
Well now , the bible god could intervene as he did with Moses, raising Lazarus etc...but apparently is out to lunch now.
I... wouldn't take the bible seriously, I think no holy book has no right to claim to represent god. I think the bible was written by people as a book of analogies with made up stories to try to communicate varying 'lessons' in life that conflict because it was written by different people, and of course some of those people would've tried to manipulate it to their own cause, which is why it's darker.
To me, it has no bearing on what a possible god(s) would be like, I can only go by life - there is sufferring here and people are at each other's mercy, and for whatever reason no metaphysical being can/will intervene, but that's not to say they're not there, just don't know yet

Ah...I knew what you meant!
I think IF there was a god and IF they wanted to be adored and worshiped etc... they would speak to the whole world at one time in every language where every person would hear and understand.
I think the belief in "gods" is archaic actually. I'm a little surprised humans havn't progressed more. However, people tend to be superstitious, and paranoid. Their afraid to be on their own. They look for someone to get them out of trouble instead of relying on their selves and need an escape goat to blame troubles on.
If the world ever takes responsibility for it's self and quits blaming the "devil", gets of it's knees and on it's feet and works to make things better, we will see real progress.

mhmm!
That way would make sense, if they could do that! lol - y'have to wonder what sort of insecure/psychotic being would create people purely so that they believe they exist and torture them if they didn't! The only reason I can think of for wanting peoplpe to flat believe would be for their own comfort (but if so, they would anyway).
Also I wonder (if there was a god) maybe that life (being a place where it's possible not to believe) might actually be intended as a place to get away from knowing about god - as there are trains of thought only easily possible under atheism AND under atheism people put principles ahead of any idea of god (which is right), so if there was a god, he might actually want atheism to exist to develop people. People would often have unprepared views of any possible god if they were too frightened to challenge beliefs in their own mind - life gives us some space and allows that to happen.
Exactly, people are afraid of life and the unknown, and cling to anything authoritarian in hope it'll protect them, and do the soulsearching for them, perhaps because they know there will be many forceful people on their side and they can just get lost in the crowd. Come to think of it, atheism helps people overcome/dispell supernatural fear, that could be another reason why any possible god who cared about his people might want it.
And yep, scapegoating all sin to satan is another product of fear, people don't take responsability because of fear - same at work.

Hopefully that helps, sir!

Are you kidding? Nope ...got it at Huffington post. I'm a two finger typist, it would have taken hours!
I think both sides are crazy, and I'll be content in my own Christian-deist-naturalist-Darwinist religio-spiritual beliefs.
Your welcome.
It's nice to know I'm not "over evil". As a matter of fact my friends and family think I'm pretty nice even though I don't believe in god. But then again, they know me.

I didn't know who this guy was, but had to laugh after reading the first paragraph on Wikipedia. Really funny, his peers suggest taking his views "with considerable skepticism." Seems like the disbelief and skepticism never ends! But, what else are Fuds in philosophy supposed to do... write controversial books and go on speaking books if they want to cash in. Maybe he wouldn't be so contrary if he'd been allowed his bar mitzvah. Maybe he would have become a Rabbi!
You might want to clarify that it was "some of his peers" most defiantly not all. I'm sure all of your peers don't agree with you either.

Hummm. so what do you say about the millions of the "merchants of god" writing books , making records and selling the so called word or inspiration of god"? Where do you find that as an acceptable thing in your bible?
Matthew 21:13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Your churches are filled with men and women getting rich off the poor in the name of god and you dare cast dispersion on a man representing no ones views but his own openly and honestly not hiding behind the clock of god!Please..give me a break.

It's great to be quoted, but my level of sincere interest in this is nil. I don't care one way or the other. I happily retract everything I wrote to grant you your break.
