Have you ever said 'What can I do alone? How can I change things by myself?"
Can one person change the world? Sure they can! It's been proven  many times throughout history. Look at Hitler, Stalin, Alexander the great, Jesus , Joan of Arc. What makes a man or a women great? What made  people follow them? They are all different. Some positive, some negative but all inspired people to lay down their lives.
People probably followed Jesus because went against the status quo (yes folks, Jesus was a rebel kind of like Martin Luther) and preached a message of love and compassion..him I understand. And Joan of Arc claimed her mission was from God so that I get too..kind of. But Alexander  inspired people to fight in bloody wars for conquest, and Hitler  motivated people to do horrible things to  millions of people! Why?
I've read some of Hitlers writings...I was not inspired. But then again I'm not prejudiced. Does it take a certain "mindset" to follow certain people?
Lets look at Jesus. Who followed Jesus and why? Well, they were mostly, but not totally the poor , widowed and the outcast. The religious leaders and priests did not welcome his arrival and it appears when it came down to it most everyone abandoned him except his mother and Mary Magdalene. But martyrdom caused his population to rise once again and the message went on and was spread amongst the populace but still rejected amongst the religious leaders.
Hitler, on the other end of the spectrum, appealed to people through their hate, prejudice and bigotry. He fanned the flames their hatred and was able to make them think they were doing the right thing by torturing and annihilating the Jews  and others!
I wish I could say that people of love and faith can not be inspired to do wicked things but look at the Christian holy wars, the Salem witch trials, Jim Jones , Fred Phelps and the Branch Dividian.
I can't help but think people are just looking for a band wagon to jump on regardless where it's going!
Apparently we love to fight, we love conflict and drama. Just look which posts make it to the top blog and get tons of reply's....the ones with the most conflict!
Are we twisted, evil or what? Send me some feed back thinkers!

Stay off those band wagons...

But knowing Him, loving Him...eschewing worldly power...following Him...is wonderful...but difficult.

Re: Can I change the world?
You know, following Jesus does seem to be a hard thing to do. But Christians will pick and choose "condemnations" from the bible and follow them with ease. They see the condemnation but don't see the "grace and forgiveness" except when it comes to them. Why is that I wonder?
People are quick to point out a "gay couple as sinners" but slow to see that Jesus never said a word about gays and taught "not to judge". If it was important to him, don't they think he would have mentioned it? They see the sin in "adultery" but lust over the girl in the Victoria secret ads (see Mathew 5:28). They insist that the 10 commandments with it's command not to kill be posted on courthouse walls but applaud and glorify the war in Iraq. Why do you suppose hate is so much easier than love? A little candle can bring a lot of light to a dark room. But a little dark is only shade in the light.

we all need love, safety and acceptance.  people (including me) are easy to deceive because we all  need to believe in these ideals.  they are real for sure.  genuine friendships are the most amazing relationships!  but i think some folks who aren't fortunate enough to have strong loving relationships are susceptible to predators who pretend to offer those things, only to harm, use, disappoint.  i think we change the world one person and one friendship at a time.  it's how we interact with the people we know that keeps love alive in the universe.

Re: Can I change the world?
We need to belong to something. SInce the oldest ages we as humans always keep looking for somethng greater, something etheral to guide us. I suppose the only reason we attatch ourselves to a human who claims a greater path is to associate with the only thing that's bigger we can be a part of.

Sometimes it's for hope of reward.

Sometimes it's for faith and hope.

Sometimes it's out of fear.

Sometimes it's brainwashing by means of backward logic and psychological play, wherein wrong becomes justified right, and by doing harm it creates a greater good. There's been LOTS of those.

Just a thought..not a very well put one, I'll give you that..but it's a thought nonetheless....

Re: Can I change the world?
It's a hard thing to figure out isn't it? Could you imagine sending people to be burned alive in ovens? old men, women and children? There is no way I could do it unless they were threatening to torture one of my babies.
They could have banned together and turned on Hitler but they didn't which leaves me to believe most of them were ok with what they were doing.Somehow he convinced people that they were less than humans.
But we see that same thing today. The religious right wants the world to see gays and lesbians as something less than human and would like to condemn them to be "stoned to death" because some stupid book told them to do it. It's totally fucked up!

I believe that the bible is totally misinterpreted. The bible wasn't written by god, or by jesus it was written by his disciples, and i think that needs to be taken into account. The new testament teaches us not to judge as that's for god to do. Many christian people that i know treat gay people the same as they want to be treated, but i do see what you're saying, there are some religions out there which are totally messed up and which possess people to do awful things.

Great blog though i enjoyed reading

Re: Can I change the world?
Thanks! and you could be right. But I see the bible as a collection of history, fable and myth. With it's talking snakes and donkeys, witches and wizards, unicorns, dragons, sooth sayers and giants , walking on water raising the dead, the walking dead...it's quite a fanciful tale!

Re: Can I change the world?
Good points, hon! And you know, I think it has alot to do with what denomination a christan is too, some are very liberal and all about equality and inclusion while others are reclusive, judgemental, and very cliquish. I've seen both in action - I just wish we had more like you, who care about people for being people and not by the label society gives them - and then hating them for such label.

You're very smart for a 17yearold, has anyone ever told you that? Oh- and I think the bible is basically a story based on fables, legends, and word of mouth event recalling based on something true. Alot gets expanded upon out of human's need to 'know everything'. I think you've got it pegged.

hugs hon!

Re: Can I change the world?
I think for Hitler at the time when he was speaking to his people. He was pointing out that look how much better they were doing in their OWN country while they were suffer and didn't seem right. So people really thought that was happening and just started it. Well this is what I think at least. but yeah it's hard to see people change the world these days because everyone wants to get notice and all. I'm doing what I can cause there's not anybody else like me so just being who I am is making a difference no matter how small right now. It trickles down to everybody else.

Re: Can I change the world?
I just don't understand how people can be coerced and conned into doing despicable acts against their fellow humans.
What  makes a human choose to do the "good"  thing?
I have seen people raised in the most deplorable conditions grow up to be some of the finest humans I know. And I have seen some people raised in God fearing, loving homes grow up to be murders. I have seen good and evil in both educated and uneducated and all races of people.
So what is the factor that makes a man/woman choose good?
If it's not religion, race, education, up bringing etc...what is it?
I'm mystified!
