you know, it never ceases to amaze me how little people really want to know about things they claim to be against. i remember when i was in college, i had a philosophy teacher that i thought was absolutely wonderful. she challenged everything, including her own beliefs, on a daily basis. she would try to make sure we saw all sides of an argument before making a judgement. and then, i remember, being on the payphone once, and hearing this girl complaining about her, saying, "she tries to question jesus and all, and i don't wanna think about that shit. i'm a christian and that's it." amusing, isn't it? someone stating that they are a christian, yet complaining that she has to actually think about jesus. now, we can laugh and say, "typical stupid christian" or something like that, but, before you do, think for a moment. how many of you who claim to be against christian oppression can really say you know what they are about or what is really wrong with their bible? i am betting not many of you. you see, for a while i assumed that all who chose to stand on my side were like me, until i had a levayan satanist friend of mine ask me why i was "so into all this jesus shit?" i was shocked. it had never occurred to me that someone would mistake my researching my enemies' doctrine with me being into their beliefs. but, apparently, there exists a certain level of miseducation and a lack of interest in christian doctrine. i am not a christian, so i don't have to know what they are about. well, kids, i'm sorry, but in my eyes, unless you truly know what it is you are against, you have no right to be against it. you see, i was raised as a catholic by my grandmother. i attended catholic school from 5th to 8th grade. now, i remember when we would be in our religion class and we'd be learning about how jesus did this, and did that, and how he loved us, and all that bullshit. but you see, i'd be looking ahead, at the passages they never taught us. i'd be looking at the book of revelations and leviticus, and finding myself disgusted by what i saw. i found myself reading throughout the entire book and saying to myself, you know, i don't believe this is true. i found passages that encouraged homophobia, rape, wife-beating, child abuse, and much, much more. i found the god of the old testament to be more akin to an abusive husband or father than a loving, wonderful god. when job suffered because of what was, basically, a bet between god and the satan, god responded to his cries with a, "well, i created you and who are you to challenge me?" this is the god i was supposed to worship? then when i got to corinthians, i found passages talkin about how evil sexuality was and how only the weak gave into them. i found that this book of love, was full of hate. and i found mysteries that were only somewhat answered by finding the excised books of the bible (enoch I, II, II; the books of adam and eve; infancy). say, for example, why does god say, in genesis, "let us create man in our image" (my emphasis)? one would assume he is speaking to the angels, but that is never really stated. who is us, white man? is there a polytheism that has been carefully erased? and what of lilith? why is no mention made of her? you see, through my studies, i learned what judeo-christian beliefs are and realized that they were not mine. but, how can anyone claim to be against these beliefs if they do not know what the beliefs are in the first place? if you are going simply by what your parents enforced upon you or what you learned in sunday school, you have no idea what you are talkin about, as those outlets never let all the dirty secrets of christiaity out in the first place. to know why the bible is a sexist, racist, homophobic, hateful lie, you must read it for yourself. are you afraid if you read it, you'll believe it and convert? if that is your fear, you're too weak to be one of us, anyway, so read it and enjoy your sunday wafers. if it's that you don't want to give money to a corrupt and evil system, as i can understand, there are places that offer free bibles. take advantage of them. i will never give money to anything that will help christianity, but i will take advantage of a free bible offer (hey, you need something when you run out of toilet paper). but seriously, know your enemy, read up on them, know why their way is not your way. if ignorance is your way, you are on the wrong side..

Re: Why Anti-Christians Should Read the Bible!!!
You are exactly right. I was raised in a Christian school from K to eighth. I'm an atheist now but I know the bible inside out. It makes it much easier to debate a religion when you understand it. Excellent point!

Re: Why Anti-Christians Should Read the Bible!!!
I agree.
I'm born and raised in a Muslim family.
I'm constantly being told about how great our religion is but there is nothing that i have seen or learned that has proved it.
I wanted to know exactly what we were so proud of so i decided to read the Quran.
I found nothing but rape, child abuse, wife-beating and such things in it.
I constantly question religion as a whole.
Then people question me as to why I don't dislike Christianity.
I was astonished. Why was I even asked that?
I don't believe in religious views much really.
People say religion unites us, but so far i can only see it as a separation.
I wanted to read the bible to understand more about Christianity, but i was constantly questioned about it and was asked if i was going to convert.
I hear people constantly say "I hate those bloody christines" or "i hate those terrorists (muslims ._.)
And i get really annoyed because they obviously do not understand anything about them.

I agree, people are really too ignorant. They don't take the time of day to understand anything..

Re: Why Anti-Christians Should Read the Bible!!!
I agree, it's silly to criticize something that one doesn't know anything about.

I'm an agnostic, and I don't think that anyone knows if God even exists.  I haven't read the Bible cover to cover, but I've read sections of it, and two years ago I took a Bible study course that lasted about 8 weeks.  I also have a book called "The Bible Handbook" that lists many inconsistencies and bogus passages of the Bible.
