he opens
his eyes
and finds
an empty

(bed, room, life)

and oh so cold the new world!

as if time stole
all the blankets
and left him
naked to

(shiver, grieve, face)

a world
full of empty

(thoughts, whispers, promises)

all
by
him
self

(words by TheRacket) (image by Nomad) (Creativity Exchange)

(To see the other part of Creativity Exchange, go to TheRacket's post, here.)

After reading TheRacket's [vacancy...] I was scared because I didn't think I was up to it. I still don't know if there is a way to draw empty and would love to still try a few more because it is such a difficult piece. I felt fear, so I wanted to disect it. Because it was difficult I want to do it again. (This is a self-preservation/masochistic technique of mine, I realize.) And because I wanted it over and done more than others, I am going back and analyzing it.

We've all been there... and if you haven't, it's probably because you haven't put yourself out in the world. You've been cushioned and are cautious. But, even at the best of times- though it's less likely during such times- you'll find yourself wondering what was all the hub-bub or why do you still feel so alone and unable to connect...

As the 11th hour loomed, I decided to interpret some of the harder facts of TheRacket's piece. I latched onto the image of a glass- because of the words "full", "or" and "empty" in the title and through word association evoked the addage, "is the glass half full or half empty". I thought on the whole poem and looked at it through that half empty/full glass and came to a hopeful conclusion that, after this person's waking in their empty bed/room/life and they've had an opportunity to shiver/grieve/face, they would also see the good of that vacancy.

The starkness of that moment was what I decided to focus upon.

Lastly, because fluxuation is inevitable- is this good, is this bad, even when looking at the same results and same image- I made the picture viewable from any direction. You can rotate it and get the same image, but a different perspective.

Thank you. =) What a nice reply.

I liked this one too. I wrote a little more about this particular exchange that explains a little more why I enjoyed it so much.

But "self" will be upside down.

Pity there isn't a font, or a program out there that can take a word you've written and arrange it in such a way that if you look at it either rightside up or upside down, it appears the same (Angels and Demons reference)

That's a good point, one that I thought of when creating this. It became my job as the artist to decide which way it inevitably has to hang. I chose to have the teardrop stay upside down, the sun be on top- a hopeful twist, if you'll forgive me- by keeping the word self at the center and in one direction.

Nice reference, by the by.

I'm just offering up creative criticism.  Without which it is impossible for us to grow and improve and all that rotten malarky that you just want to smack someone in the face for going on about.

I appreciated it. I hope you weren't given the wrong impression that I didn't appreciate it.

By all means, if you're offended by my malarky- chew on it and brew another batch of scathing retorts.

Mr.Ghoulie- I reread what I wrote and thought I should clarify, I was goofing. I don't want you to think I was mad at you. But if you knew that- then cool and sorry for being such a squeemish-jokester.
