Looking for delicate branches and inspiration I came upon this website. On that website were these two pictures with the following descriptions.

Robert Gustafson, Jr.(no relation) has this Corkbark Elm with a delicate canopy of branches and leaves.  It was grown from a cutting struck 8 years ago and has been in this pot about 3 years.

A near-perfect mame Nire Elm:
taper, branching, leaves, trunk, rootage, moss, pot, stand.
Also the design of Robert Gustafson, Jr., this was purchased as a one gallon-size specimen three or four years ago from Jim Barrett's in California.  The top was cut back to develop the taper.  Approx 8" tall from soil line to top.  Trunk at base approx 1-1/8" in diameter.   Width of tree approximately 8".  Pot is 6-1/8" x 4-3/4" x 1-1/2".

I find this so fascinating. My sister bought me a bonsai for Christmas one year and it was the most precious gift. There is something so wonderful, no... so spiritual about growing these little trees.

Re: Tiny Treasures
I neglected and killed a bonsai once.  It wasn't nearly as spiritual as keeping it alive.

I want one again, but am afraid I wouldn't be a good "father" to it.

Mine died when I was in Greece. No one there to spritz a fine spray of water upon the moss and soil...

I can show you the table it died on. It had mold growing underneath it and now it's stained.

Everytime I see it, it reminds me of blood stains from a murdered body.

Re: Tiny Treasures
Yeah, I really like those things, I want to get one but I'm afraid of killing it.... I've killed almost every plant I've ever owned in a couple of months.... except for this one cactus that I actually tried to kill, but it stayed alive for about a year....

hm... go figure. Maybe I should just get a rock garden, I cant kill that now can I!
