Monkeypeep'd-

October Things On November First:

I bought three bags of mini candy bars expecting to be home for trick-o-treaters. (Chilly was all: "You know those bags are going to be empty before Halloween, right?" And I was like, "Yeah, I know." But secretly I gloat over not opening the candy bags until the day before Halloween. At that time ha-HA!, we each only ate one or two pieces.) But on Halloween, I worked late and then we went to the store to buy some essentials (toilet paper, yo) and walked away with some non-essentials (area rug's da bomb!). We still have three bags of candy that will be divied between work, desserts and general lay-about, languishing, guilt candy.

As I get further away from my childhood and childish desires, I appreciate more and more certain things. Like people that give out pretzels to kids on Halloween. I appreciate those people now. As a kid I thought it was a great big, fat gip to deny kids candy on halloween. Almost sacrilegious. And now, I appreciate those very sincere people who give out non-candy. Those people with the mini-crappy toothbrushes? I think those people are kind of sweet now.

My grandmother, when I used to go to her house for trick-o-treating, would give me a box of no-bake cheesecake. It rocked! We bonded over cheesecake and the no-baking brand. And my bag felt so full!

October movies. We watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Musical- I mean The Beginning. It was dumb. I wish it were a musical. You could have Leatherface sing some dramatic opera (oh the superficial irony!). The teens would be singing only in screams. Even at the start- instead of dialogue they could make little mewling screams and pretend they are talking. It might be a long way for a joke, for that moment when -finally- one of them gets to really scream... beautiful.

There were so many more movies we were going to watch but never got around to it. But there have been some television shows we watched. It all evens out. Heroes, Veronica Mars, Battlestar Gallactica, Smallville. I saw one episode of Studio 60 and really liked that. I've heard good things about that football show...

The header for November probably won't last the whole month. A great big warning to you, you lovers of stupid headers. Don't get too attached. Beware. It's one of the most vomit-inducing headers I've ever made. Makes you feel like you're moving into unconsciousness (like someone slipped you a mickey and that someone was me). Think of it as getting two DVDs for the price of one, where it's obvious to the purchaser that marketing people were handed the task of upselling crap. And those shifty-eyed marketing people knew what they were doing when they paired up Rush Hour 2 with Spiderman. Ooooh- two headers in October?! Yay! Who cares if the first one is trash, it was free, and the other one I've always wanted!

Nice frakkin' post.  You had some real gems in there.  "TCM:The Musical"?  Brilliant.  The header 2-for-1 deal?  Amazing.
