Lisa Simpson: [writing] Dear log, can it be true? Does every Simpson go through a process of dumbening? Hey, that's not how you spell 'dumbening'. Wait a minute… 'dumbening' isn't even a word!

Mmmmmm.... Snowclones!

-----

A store wants me to buy things and sometimes I want to buy things but most of the time I'm cheap and don't want to buy anything. I loathe shopping. I find no joy in it... unless I'm buying for others. Christmas shopping is very nice. I like that. Or book shopping. That's fun. Anyway...

I went to some stores last night and while picking up tissue for drippy noses and medicine for stuffed heads I saw some cute shoes. I perused the isles and started trying them on. When I could fit my boats into the cute shoes they were cramped. When I oggled the delicate arcs of the heeled shoes, tempted to try them on, they mocked me and wouldn't allow me to squeeze all of my foot in. Of only 4 pairs of shoes in my size, in the whole store, (that's a lot of commas and eliminating factors) only three I could barely fit. There was no way I would be able to walk around in them for any length of time. Blisters, corns, disfigurement, loss of circulation resulting in toes dropping off, gangrene, the ancient Japanese art of bound-feet anyone?

I turned to Huzband (the poor, bored dear) and sulkily said: "I feel like Cinderella's sisters."

Just like Drezelda or Anastasia or whatever her name was, I fully expected the shoe to sling-shot across the length of the store when my foot inevitably straightened despite the impossible u-shape.

Trying on a pair of cute tan pumps (low narrow heel, weaved-texture, tweedy) that I put aside for last because I wanted them to fit above all others (the superstitious side of me came out- good things come to those who wait- you know), it was the same tune different page. They fit nicely enough unless I wanted to stand. So unless I can hire or enslave some beefy men to carry me around day in and day out, the shoes were out of the question.

Me: I am a monster.

Huzband: What?!

Me: I don't need a costume. I will go as I am. A monster.

Huzband: Don't say that, you're not a monster.

Me: A large footed monstrosity, unable to wear cute shoes.

Huzband: ...

Me: (now mumbling incoherently) Roaming State St., Halloween night, 'Look! Look at my big feet! I am big foot!'

Huzband: [Exasperatedly says my name with a hint of censure.]

Mmm...linguistics. You certainly seem to be into a language theme these days! Yesterday, tmesis, today snowclones. Personally, I am a big fan of the portmanteau!

Everyone has the right to wear cute shoes! This is  tragic news indeed. Have you done any online shoe shopping at Zappos? I've always heard they have a great selection of sizes, and shipping/returns are a piece of cake.

Mmm...cake.

Portmanteaus are portmanteauriffic! lol

I like to try on shoes in RL as I can wear anywhere from 10 (wides) to 11 because sizes vary by makers- but I have eyeballed the online market. When I do find shoes I like I buy them up- fast.

Heh heh.

My friend with similarly sized 10-11 feet has had pretty good luck with RL shopping at DSW Shoe Warehouse...do you have one of those near you? Aside from that, I think she's shopped at Nordstrom.

Funny story about this friend...once she was trying on these beautiful high heeled boots at a tastefully funky little boutique. They actually did have her size, but she wasn't quite sure if they fit right. But the hipster salesgirl casually asked "Have you tried them in the men's sizes?" Of course...find out where the drag queens shop!

Re: Hodge-Podge, Pudding And Pie
You reminded me- I was going to mention in the above post, revisiting the memory of wearing men's shoes regularly, as a child and as an adult. Now, about checking out wear the drag queens shop- that! That is an idea. lol

this size 10-wide-high-arch woman can feel your pain. *sigh*  literally!

Re: Hodge-Podge, Pudding And Pie
We must band together and either make our own shoes and sell them to women just like us or write to shoe makers and get them to make them for us!

Re: Hodge-Podge, Pudding And Pie
i say we make our own.  and while we're at it, maybe some neat clothes too... instead of ugly flowery elastic-band clothes!

You like Peggy Hill, with size 16.5 feet?

Re: Hodge-Podge, Pudding And Pie
Really?! She has size 16.5 feet? Wow.

No- I have size 10W-11s feet. Now I don't feel so bad...

Re: Hodge-Podge, Pudding And Pie
Yeah, and the only reason I remember her foot size was cuz the episode centered on foot fetishes.

Re: Hodge-Podge, Pudding And Pie
Ahhh.... snowclones. I'd say something clever or witty about them, but I'm pretty sure that when my entire blog theme is based around one of the internet's biggest snowclone's, it speaks for itself (albeit badly translated ^_^).

Big feet aren't bad! Smile! Or... something.

I noticed someone mentioned Peggy Hill... just do what she (accidentally) did! Start working on one of those foot fetish sites! XD Easy money!

I feel you on the shoe pain.

I abhor, losthe, hate shoe shopping, because all the cute shoes never fit.
