Prayers of Invocation

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

Wallace Stevens

I
Among twenty snowy mountains,
The only moving thing
Was the eye of the blackbird.

II
I was of three minds,
Like a tree
In which there are three blackbirds.

III
The blackbird whirled in the autumn winds.
It was a small part of the pantomime.

IV
A man and a woman
Are one.
A man and a woman and a blackbird
Are one.

V
I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections
Or the beauty of innuendoes,
The blackbird whistling
Or just after.

VI
Icicles filled the long window
With barbaric glass.
The shadow of the blackbird
Crossed it, to and fro.
The mood
Traced in the shadow
An indecipherable cause.

VII
O thin men of Haddam,
Why do you imagine golden birds?
Do you not see how the blackbird
Walks around the feet
Of the women about you?

VIII
I know noble accents
And lucid, inescapable rhythms;
But I know, too,
That the blackbird is involved
In what I know.

IX
When the blackbird flew out of sight,
It marked the edge
Of one of many circles.

X
At the sight of blackbirds
Flying in a green light,
Even the bawds of euphony
Would cry out sharply.

XI
He rode over Connecticut
In a glass coach.
Once, a fear pierced him,
In that he mistook
The shadow of his equipage
For blackbirds.

XII
The river is moving.
The blackbird must be flying.

XIII
It was evening all afternoon.
It was snowing
And it was going to snow.
The blackbird sat
In the cedar-limbs.

I had a great day today and have made exciting changes. I thank you and Kathy in those changes for the courage you have given me.

Re: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird
I "Love" the "Blackbirds" also! I always call to them: "Squackfaces," in a "joking manner, and they sense that I love them, so they will often pay me visits! Here in California, the Blackbirds, as well as the Sea Gulls grow to be about a third larger than those on the East Coast! I think that it is because there is more open space, and they can find more to eat! Be they Ravens or Crows, they are of the same family, and highly intelligent, as they are "Beautiful!" I love the way that their very shiny black feathers, glisten in the sun. The Sea Gull is also an "Elegant Critter!" Someone that I mentioned that too said: But they are scavangers! I replied: So is Man! Another comment that got me annoyed was: Oh! They will eat anything! I replied: So does Man! (Unfortunately)

I loved reading your poem!  Voted!

Re: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird
As I said to Ray "Weird". Are you the only one on here that can't blog? And how strange that it is only your one blog. Maybe if we all had a campaign with Mindsay, they would finally answer! I think I will try to send them a message too.

I sent Mindsay a message. If Ray does and all your other online friends do, maybe something will happen!
