The Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven
and Earth. It is called the Rainbow
Bridge because of its many colors.

Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge

there is a land of meadows, hills and
valleys with lush green grass.

When
a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this
place. There is always food and water
and warm spring weather. The old and
frail animals are young again. Those
who are maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing.

They
are not with their special person who
loved them on Earth. So each day
they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and
looks up! The nose twitches! The ears
are up! The eyes are staring! And this
one suddenly runs from the group! You
have been seen, and when you and your
special friend meet, you take him or her
in your arms and embrace. Your face is
kissed again and again and again, and
you look once more into the eyes of
your trusting pet. Then you cross the
Rainbow Bridge together, never again
to be separated.

Re: The Rainbow Bridge
That is really nice Joy.

It is a much prettier place than the rainbow bridge near you.

When i first started Storytelling one of my Favorite Authors was a priest from Buffalo John Aurilio. In one of his books he talks about cats and dogs being Guardian Angels in the Flesh.

Melanie's favorite story as a child was "Last slice of the rainbow" about a pet fish that gave away pieces of the rainbow for healing. In her childhood word Rainbows were up there with muppets, and Unicorns. Two artists friends and i ran a Kids Creative arts program called "The rainbow connection

I think of rainbows as everyday, sunlight Borealis.

To attach that to ones late animals makes it extra special.

Thanks for this. See you got me on a thought train look out.......

Sunlight Borealis, that is an excellent play and image of words, let me give you some coal for I know this to be one of the grandest trains ever, they don't make them like they used to.

Trains another favorite topic. (Slaps self and says let the new management handle that next week)

Any coal you have given me has never been the kind Santa Gives bad boys and girls but coal pressed and polished into diamonds.

To stand in Sunlight Borealis and Dance with the Likes of you.

Re: The Rainbow Bridge
Yes, I was sent this by a friend many years ago, who does counseling for those who have lost animals. I had lost my companion. She was a Newfoundland mix, 160 pounds. And the most marvelous animal in the world to me. I have many many stories I can tell about her. Her name was Ubu and I have always said I wanted to write a children's book about her and illustrate it. It will be called "Ubu and the very buried bagle", because she would bury bagles we would give her and dig them up ages later, as if they were her bones. But that would only be one of the stories. Another one would be about when I got her from the Humane Society and she grew and grew and grew ;~) Every week, she would gain 3 lbs or so until she reached her 160 pounds. Anyway, my dear friend sent me this site to help me with my grief over Ubu. One of the sites even has some wonderful music on it and I cry every time I go to it, still. Have you recently lost a dear animal? Or did you just want to share this site?

Re: The Rainbow Bridge
Mr. Tish recently crossed over, he is our orange fluffy cat pictured a few blogs back, he crossed on 12/26 and I think I posted that day or the next.

I loved your stories about Ubu... I think you're right, telling stories is a good way to share and transform grief. Well not even transform, Mr. Tish was ill for a period of time before he died, it was his time to go, I miss him but I am not sad, he lives with us in spirit still. We did right by him, we'd had him since he was four weeks old, he chose to live his life with us and we are so honoured.

Thank you for the thoughts and the idea to share his story~ I look forward to reading about Ubu.

Re: The Rainbow Bridge
I'm sorry about Mr. Tish. Sometimes our animal friends are closer to us than people friends and relatives, because they are with us all the time and are always loyal. When one of my cats died several years back (he was a fabulous cat named Pushkin), I saw Pushkin ghosts all over the place for a while. He wanted me to know he was still nearby as I grieved so much for him. I had no idea anything was the matter, and bam, he was gone. We lost our dog, and 3 cats all within around one year of each other from old age ailments. Ubu, though 160 pounds, lived to 13. Pushkin and Queen Victoria were each 15 and their mother, Socks was 16. But it's hard to lose them, even if you know they are old and sick.

I love this and have read it often.  I haven't yet lost a pet, but I hope this comforts me when I do.

Re: The Rainbow Bridge
I can't say that I'm pleased with you for this post - because I had forgotten about how the Rainbow Bridge thing made me cry after the loss of my Thumbs.  But, it is still a very beautiful concept.
