aw kids are special...i loved working a few years with primary school kids and they always made me feel so special. i felt very loved each day
but yeah, although they are adorable, you don't want them to take advantage of it when they do something wrong. it's all about tough love and that way they won't become spoiled brats.
sorry i wasn't online. was watching 'wallace and gromit: curse of the were-rabbit' with jan. he loved it, laughed so much until he cried hehe

Yeah that's an old threat. Our parents used to use the amputation threat if we ever complained about pains. We've also had the chop of your hair threat when it's in knots. It works well when you have a kid with long hair who's complaining about the pain of getting the knot out.
I can tell you would feel special from the dear diary note. It would've been completely adorable if she didn't throw a tantrum later. It's good that you didn't second guess her mum by saying it's okay for her to go all huffy about not going to school. Or you would've been in a difficult position next time.

I agree, I like kids too but they can be difficult when they misbehave. I sometimes babysit my bf's niece and nephew who are 3 and 5. The five year old is a really good little boy, usually no trouble. But the 3 year old is going through a sort of selfish stage and you can't really reason with her. Cos its not really my place to discipline as I believe thats up to the parents, I can't do much when she acts up or fights with her brother except try and distract her with other things, like reading a book etc.
Sounds like you were put in a hard place tho, i think its good u stood your ground.
