There's a lady at my work who comes from El Salvadore. She has a spanish accent and she was telling us about a conversation with this lady:

Lady1: Where are you from?
Lady2: El Salvadore.
Lady1: Oh, where's that?
Lady2: It's in Central America.
Lady1: But you don't have an American accent!

...

Lady2: We speak Spanish there.
Lady1: Oh, I've always wanted to go to Spain!
Lady2: Yeah, me too.
(Lady1 gets confused and changes the subject.)

Re: El Salvadore
Next time say, "Hola, commo estas?" (Hi, how are you). And say "bueanas dias" I think that's similar to have a good day. Bueanas noches for evening/ night.

Does she do tutoring? I want to brush up on my Spanish before going to Spain/ Madrid.

As far as I know, she doesn't tutor.

Re: El Salvadore
I can photocopy some of my Spanish notes if you want some phrases to speak with her.

Re: El Salvadore
It's okay, I'm not really that interested in learning Spanish and she speaks English well enough for us to communicate effectively.

Re: El Salvadore
I only said that because sometimes people might get a kick if you try and greet them in their language. I told you that more for friendliness than your learning the language.

Re: El Salvadore
That's a good point.

Re: like a kidney stone - well I'm biased... So I'll just agree and say that was a genius assessment.
