So same sex classrooms can't be that bad... and if the same curiculum is taught in both rooms then there should be no problems. It'll be the same as having two classes on the one subject. Hell, if the classes are run at different times it'll improve mingling due to each 'sex' wanting to cheat off the other or find out about a surprise test and so on and so forth.

Sure having an all girl or all boy class can be helpful in some instances but unless it is a choice that is made by the students and their parents the gov't shouldn't be saying it is okay to segregate anyone in a public school.
I have nothing against all girl or all boy schools, they do work and very well. But not for everyone and next thing we knowt he gov't is going to start enforcing not only segragation of sexes but of race. I am just not for that!
, but stay with me. Theoretically, with the idea of ignorance to "racial background", regardless of the "colour" of people, it would go from being 'That dude over there is black/tan/dark-skinned/white/asian/islander/whatever)" to "There's a guy over there, who just happens to be black/tan/dark-skinned/white/asian/islander/whatever)". People often seem to segregate themsleves because they don't feel comfortable with people of another background, even within the "backgrounds" themselves people segregate, I think it's human nature... to stick with whats familiar I guess.
The fact that people sit there and go oh, it's a person from another "race", we should be nice to them and let them have lee-way so we don't seem racist is crap. It happens here in Austalia all the time, it's policy (perhaps unwritten) to avoid arresting Aboriginals since there's so many problems and issues that are raised. It'd be pulled up as discrimination even though the act caused by a "white" Australian would ensue punishment. Sure, he hit a guy.. but that happens all the time... you see a "white" guy hit someone and he's arrested on assault. As far as I'm concerned, I don't care what background a person comes from, a wrong doing is a wrong doing and thus punishment should incur. People shouldn't be let off easy because they are "different". Everyone is the same. Everyone here is Australian and they're stupid if they think otherwise. Once you get citienship here, your not chinese, asian, american or any other worldly order, or an Aussie and thus shoud be treated like all other Aussies!
But you do have a good point, it should be a students choice, not a forced thing, although somehow I imagine that it wouldn't be a very common choice, although I could be wrong.

A few weeks ago I think a Senator or a Congressman said the same thing and he got raked over the coals for daring to say the same thing your friend said.
I think you would be wrong. Some students know exactly what works for them and what doesn't. A lot of times the parents and teachers or basicly the system doesn't listen to them. I do have a couple of friends from school that transfered to an all girl indian boarding school because they hated classes with the guys. Same with a couple of the guys. But my whole thing isn't the fact it wouldn't work it is the fact the same gov't that says race shouldn't be an issue, sexual orintation should't be an issue, is allowing some states and other orgs to MAKE them issues in regards to things that should NOT backslide!
I don't really understand the logic behind segregated classes. I'm sure there's some kind of psychological hoo-haw that they can use to back up the argument, but I'm with you, I don't think society needs the government to endorce sexism, they're doing fine without an endorsement, thank you very much.
Besides, I know as a male highschool student, girls are the only releif from the monotony I get! Why disregard one of the few reasons to remain conscious during financial lit? Heck, I look forward to the days when the boys and girls Gym classes have joint activities.
So not only is segregation stupid, senseless, and arguably immoral, it's just no fun!
I grew up in an area where everyone had to do the same activites. Girls were not giving any slack on anything and same with the guys! The girls were NOT allowed to do "girl" pushups unless absolutly necessary and the guys couldn't get out of "girl" sports just because they wanted to. Okay it didn't help that most of us girls where built like shit brick houses and our guys were bean poles until their Sr years!
Hell we even had joint weight lifting classes for jr and sr years for extra pe classes. We had a group of guys try their dayumdest to get on the girls volleyball teams and vice versa of the girls trying to get on the football teams. We were denied because the State told the school it was up to them as long as we each had a sport to play.
When I'm instructing my Karate class, I don't make the girls get off their knees during push-ups, but I wish I could. Besides that activity, I don't give them any slack. They hate me, but they'll thank me one day.
Football is the one activity that I don't think should be made coed, mostly because I can't bare to see women get hurt. There was a movie I watched in Jr. High called Not Without My Daughter and it shows this woman's husband beating her, and it was mild but I couldn't handle it. Even though football is a controlled setting, it's violent and painful and I just think there's something morally wrong with subjecting women to it.
Now if they want their own team, that's all right with me, heck, that's just hot.
