Iowa Basic Skills Tests

Now if you all don't know what the Iowa Basic Skills Tests are let me do a really brief explanation. Now mind you I once took these for MANY years as a student and now I am dealing with them as a parent so it isn't going to be a good defination.

Iowa Basic Skills Tests: A bunch of tests that mean jack shit and wastes time for the students and teachers. And in some cases stresses the poor child out that they get literally sick.

DeLaney took her first Iowa Basic Skills Tests today. I am not worried about her because she doesn't worry about them because RAndy and I hammered it into her head that some kids test well others dont' and to fuck it all! All these tests do is see where your 3rd grade class is compared to other 3rd grade classes. Kind of like those bogus ass tests you took down in TX. I think they were called Task or something like that. Same principal.

I am proud of my girl. She went in ready and willing to test just to get it over with and even went around to her classmates stressing and said dont' worry! They aren't going to kick you out of third grade (her lil friend Casey thought if she did bad they would move her back to 2nd grade) and your not going to get in trouble if you get a lot wrong or even all of them.

Even as a 3rd grader and taking these bogus ass tests the majority of my public school presence, I still HATE them with a passion. I don't care I always ranked higher then national average on a personal level. I HATE them! They lump every student into one category and not every child learns the same! And you add these tests to the bull shit of "No Child Left Behind Act" all you have is the gov't placing more and more stress on already stressed out kids!

bah, I know what you mean, Erika got her CSAPs back last week and was devastated that she hadn't scored advanced, like the previous years. I had to go on telling her, that it is just a way to see how the school is doing, teaching and so on, no one looks at these tests when you are applying for college and certainly, no potential boss is going to care that you were "only" proficient in 5th grade testing. We have to do Benchmark Assessments this week, a math scantron thing. They take them 3 times a year. She already is stressing out, she was up all night throwing up. Yeah, hurrah for no one left behind, but thanks for all the stress.

I know I am terrible on a few fronts. First I can't get my kids to write after going to the trouble of getting them pen pals! Second I don't get mail and hate going to the post office becuase I HATE getting said bills I already know.

But ..............I have gotten them started on writting somewhat! I managed to convience them with only you know Uncle would LOVE to get something from you out on the Marine Base! So they each sent him a picture and a nice letter. So Ericka just might get a letter here soon. Now all I have to do is get the mail more often so we can get my kids to write they can read Ericka's letters!

I swear you and my sister who I torked the hell off are bound and determined to make me get my mail. I haven't gotten it in about two months! Thank Gods for a HUGE mail box. I dont' even care if I have missed party invites, family annoucements or anything. I figure if it was really important they would call to make sure I got them!
