Okay folks from the Omaha/Council Bluffs area this is for you!

A puppy mill was shut down south of Omaha and 171 some dogs and puppies including mamma's and pregnant dogs about to give birth have arrived at the NE Humane Society in Omaha the other day.  Most of the dogs and puppies if not all of them are small breed dogs.  Two have been put down due to diesese and the rest are being allowed to adjust to clean and safe surroundings before they start cleaning them up and putting them up for adoption.

The kennal in Omaha already has 240 some dogs in their kennal and had enough room to take these poor dogs and puppies in to make almost 400 dogs and puppies needing to be adopted.  Even if you can't have a dog or any pet in your home for any reason please think about giving some time to the shelter.

My family and I live about 2 hours or less north of Omaha and are thinking about contacting the shelter and letting them know that we will adopt.  I perfer the big dogs, case in point my rottie that I had to give up and now my great dane puppy but my hubby and kids love small breed dogs and we usually have one of each and it devasted us when we had to give up my rottie and my hubby's min. snausher and almost didn't even get me the great dane puppy especially since we had both of our other dogs for about 5 years.

Anymore I am not a big fan of adopting from shelters because in the long run it costs just as much if not more to adopt from them then purchasing a dog from the newspaper or amature breeder.  Those folks that breed to have fun with it take really good care of the puppies and most of hte time the only thing you have to pay extra for is the spaying/neutering because all shots have been given.  With shelters you end up paying adopting fee which keeps increasing each year, shot fees, spaying/neutering fees, and other lil fees that can add up real fast.  Just ask my parents they will NEVER adopt from a shelter again after their last big dog.  It ended up costing my mother and father almost 400 some dollars for everything from adoption fee to shots and neutering because the vets love to have the dogs checked over for everything to get money back from their free first visit.

But in situations like this shelters usually lower their adoption fees, a lot of the shots and treatments are taken care of before hand and they are in need of folks to adopt and give animals good homes.

So if your an animal lover and live in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area please contact the NE Humane Society and find out when the dogs and puppies will be up for adoption and go help an abused animal out!
