hmmmmm.
Please, can someone fix the glaring typo in the headline? Just because a word ends with "s" does not mean it requires an apostrophe.
I think the apostrophe looks nice there. I vote we leave it alone. It doesn't endanger the sanctity of the English language or anything.
Sure, why should we hold ourselves accountable to the rules of the English language, as long as it's pleasing to the eye.
We should put apostrophe's on the end's of all word's that have a final letter of s. It look's fabulou's.

"I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way." ~Mark Twain
I think he would include the use of the apostrophe.

I'm going to side with Comrade Shade in one sense. I do agree that the rules of English exist for a reason, but I tend to think Mark Twain would agree. I had a good English teacher, well, once anyway, and while discussing a specific grammatical regulation, I asked her about a novel I was reading, where that rule was broken frequently. She answered something along the lines that the rules don't always apply to authors. It struck me that it's similar to the rules we tend to apply to handling power tools, chainsaws, and automobiles. The rules exist for the inexperienced, but as you begin using something at the edge of its capabilities, as contractors, lumberjacks, and racers do, you can modify them as you need. Likewise, authors can do fun things with words that would hardly make passing grade in a high school English class.
For the sake of the art, you can play with words, play with grammar, and even play with the letters. Language is more of an art than a science, though it has elements of both.
That being said, the apostrophe was probably a typographic error and I agree that fixing it is good.
Overall, I just used a lot of words to say very little.

... is there a grammatical rule against redundancy?
You just like disagreeing with me in a nice way. In your favor I like your "Saikotik" spelling. It makes you a kinder, gentler psychotic.

You misspelled "ourselve's" and "rule's" and "a's" and "a's."

I waffled on whether to do it in the first sentence, but ultimately chose to only do it in the sentence in which I wa's making the suggestion.
sometimes you can't go back and fix them..in the past I've had 'lil errors that I tried to fix..and it just wouldn't happen
Really? In almost four years here, I've never had that problem where it won't let me go back and fix a typo in my own entry. Maybe it's some weird conspiracy the MindSay gurus have against you.
I have found that I can fix the body of the blog, but not the subject line in many occasions..and as for the gurus having something against me, that is nothing new to me
Interesting that you are specifically excluded from changing the title of your entry - I've heard a lot of complaints about this place but never that one. Also interesting that the guys in charge who go weeks without logging into their own blogs have the desire and take the time to mess with yours.
I have to concur with you. For a MindSay news headline, the grammar should be proper. It is more appropriate.
<grin> Rarely, but I'm a freelance editor and tend to see "official" publications (print or digital) as having an obligation to at least be grammatically correct. It is, I know, a failing of mine to be so persnickety.
My daughter is an editor too and she, like you, would make her "corrections" in a proper and appropriate manner. Sometimes I just prefer bad grammar over bad manners.

Oh yeah.
That can be vastly annoying. Fortunately, I was broken of my, ah, grammatical fastidiousness in conversations and informal writings.
I now just roll my eyes and beat my chest and think Control Alt Delete with more formal publications. lol

LOL I just saw that it got fixed! Ah, I can sleep with peace and safety because the value of the apostrophe has been upheld once again.
