Unfortunately this seems to happen just about every year on Black Friday – overzealous shoppers either hurt themselves or someone else in the process of trying to secure the best deals.  From Fox News:

“Black Friday took a grim turn when a Walmart employee in New York died after bargain hunters broke down the doors to the store.

The 34-year-old male employee was pronounced dead one hour after shoppers broke down the doors to the shopping center in Valley Stream, N.Y., and knocked him down at around 5 a.m. Friday, police said.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was also taken in for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries during the incident, police said.”

It’s not clear what if any security presence might have been on the scene, but this seems to be the same old story.  Since people can’t seem to help themselves, perhaps it’s time to make sure there is some sort of law enforcement presence at these Black Friday events to keep everyone orderly?

a "grim turn"? How about a stupid turn?

Only the stupidest people on earth could be worked into a fury to bust down the doors of a Wal-Mart.

All I have to say: only in America.

It does seem to be only American stores that think, Oh hey, let's make the masses be violently greedy. No one will get hurt. Nu-uh.

they don't care if anyone gets hurt...as long as they can't be held liable...anything to make a buck!

Not true at all. They do stuff like this in other countries too like Bosnia and Russia.

That's a surprise.  I thought this was an American tradition.  Now I feel silly.

wow how we let people tell us to go shopping on the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas, letting them take advantage of us like that. GREED GRED GREED. >___<

that is a very sad and unnerving story about the human behavior patterns.  however, even though i know it to be the wal-mart logo, the smiley face is a bit crass on your part considering the content of the story.

i usually never go out on black friday because i hate traffic and long lines.

looks like I risked my life needlessly this year (i went out).  I didn't even get any of the special deals before they were sold out...
