Madame Tussauds opened a new branch in Berlin this month to be welcomed by an abrupt protest. The second man to enter the wax museum allegedly tore the head off of an Adolf Hitler figurine on its opening day. German police arrested the 41-year-old man after two employees at the museum unsuccessfully tried to prevent him from jumping over a table that was in front of the wax figurine.

Within a matter of seconds, the man had tore off the head of the controversial figure. The man claimed that he was protesting against the display, but he has been arrested and is now facing "investigation on suspicion of causing damage to property and bodily harm," said a police spokesman.

The Hitler figure has been removed from the new museum, however it won't be decided until Monday what to do about the display. Though its presence causes a controversy and much criticism, Hitler's role in German history will not be forgotten. The museum aimed to portray the former German leader in a way that would not glorify him, going through such extremes as not allowing visitors to "touch, photograph, or pose with" it,  however it is clear that including this display in the museum was upsetting to some.

Would it upset you to see a lifelike sculpture of a notorious leader or would you just consider it a part of history? Was this a poor mistake made by the museum or did the visitor go too far with his actions? Where do we draw the line between the truth and what people prefer to hear?

Re: Berlin's Wax Museum Loses a Notorious Head
To deny Hitler's place in world affairs would be ignorance at best and revisionism at worst.

I think forgetting his part in history, and what he did, would be a worse offense. To pretend he wasn't a part of German history is ludicrous.

How could people forget the mustache that Hitler had?  If everyone forgets everything else we've got to at least remember that sick ass mustache.

It would be scary to see a detailed version of Hitler in person.

I guess it would be similar to adding an "Osama Bin Laden" or "Saddam Hussein" wax figure in New York City.

Though I would be more offended by a wax G-dub.

Isn't it usually an honor to be put into M. Tussaud's?

Even if Hitler is a part of history, he shouldn't be in there. It's downright creepy and unnecessary.

That'd be a great piece of information to know. I was under the impression this one was either a history theme or large enough to contain several different sections in one museum (like music, sports, movies etc).

If it's anything like the others, it's probably just a collection of different aspects of German culture. But still, wouldn't it be considered honoring a subject by including it as a key part of one's culture?

I don't know if it would be considered honoring the person as much as it would be considered recognizing that it happened. If I remember correctly, Germany was scrutinized for pretending that Hitler "never happened" by excluding teaching that part of history in schools and other similar things, don't quote me on it but it's just stuff that I have heard.

Hello censorship discussion.

Not sure how this museum works, but the one in New York City has different "theme" rooms.  They have a sports one, presidents, AND a gruesome "Tower of London" beheading room - with a "caution sign" outside before you enter.

Like most people, rewriting history is NOT good.  So, maybe they could make a "demons" and "bad people" room and place that statue in there - with a lot of others.

Flydue, I like your idea! In fact, I think that it is "Perfect!" They aught to call that room: "Monsters of the past!"
