Moves like this only make me hate this group more.
I'm a big supporter of breastfeeding BABIES - I am currently nursing my daughter who is almost 18mo and I hope to continue breastfeeding her until she's 24mo before I stop. Even though I'm semi-crunchy/semi-organic in how I raise my child, I find the idea of using breastmilk in ice cream (or any other dairy product) so gross! <<shudder>>
I heard that a place in Switzerland is going to be using 75% breastmilk in their foods...I think I'll pass! eek!
I'm no supporter of PETA, but everyone has to realize that PETA isn't seriously advocating women's milk, they're trying to make a point--it's strange that people will drink another animals milk without a second thought, but the minute human milk comes into question it's like the most disgusting thing ever. Plus, the way of retrieving milk from cow's is actually quite cruel and sick. I encourage everyone to research this, you might think differenty the next time you pour a big ol' glass of cow fluid.
The amount of somatic cells in milk is negligible.
I prefer raw milk to the pasteurized and homogenized processed stuff, though.

Have you ever actually been to a dairy farm? What makes milking a cow sick and cruel? If a cow doesn't get milked they'll get mastitis, a very nastey infection. Dairy cows don't have the immune system that beef cows have. And milking a cow is no worse than a woman pumping her breastmilk...it's exactly the same thing...you have suction that draws the milk out and it hurts like hell at first but you get used to it.
I think the argument would be that a woman would have a choice where the cow doesn't...Oh and aren't cows artificially inseminated to produce milk in the first place, this practice would be considered cruel as well.

My uncle had a dairy farm when I was growing up and I spent a lot of time there. When the machines were hooked up and milking, the cows were munching lazily on their meals, they didn't appear to have a care in the world, either before, during or after the milking process. I also saw them train the young cows to the machines...they didn't just plug them in and start pumping...they actually spent time acclimating them to the feel of the machines and of being milked so that by the time they were 'working milk cows,' the process was not painful or traumatic for them.
We all know that. The point is unfounded, and their illustration thereof is so unspeakably ridiculous, that all they're managing to do is squander what little support they still have. The entire campaign is nothing but overzealous pursuit of a theoretically good cause combined with bad PR, resulting in the organization becoming the laughing stock of charitable organizations.
gross!!! I grew up on a dairy farm and I have to say...diary cows are treated way better than a lot of people are.
And I have to say...I'm a new mom and I pump breastmilk for my baby since she won't nurse. It is a LOT of work to pump, so much so that even my doctor is telling me to quit and just switch her to formula. There is no way that you'd find enough women insane enough to pump milk just for people to have animal friendly milk. And any women stupid enough to do it should be hit.
I think if you drink beer or something you naturally make more milk... I'm not sure though. Think i heard my aunt say that once upon a time when my oinker cousin was born.
There is something in beer that does help women who have a problem lactating lactate. I can't remember why that is, but it is. Apparently warm showers also work too.
Nope. My aunt had to do that with her second kid. Somewhere in the family there is a picture of her in the hospital holding a beer and eating dinner.
Maybe this would help curb the obesity epidemic... since almost all of us would be grossed out enough to not touch ice cream again?
Probably shouldn't work that way, but the idea of drinking breast milk at this point in my life really creeps me out.

Lol! It's a good start, but let's face it: the people that have made themselves two, three, four times their healthy weight aren't too concerned about the content of what they're eating. There are grosser things than breast milk in some of that food.

The animal rights group PETA thinks enough is enough. Instead of using cows for the milk that makes ice cream, the group is urging Ben & Jerry’s to use nursing moms for milk … really. According to
