As long as the people had a choice as to whether or not to "tread" on the flag, it could have made for an interesting experiment. It sounds like this is the case. No offense to people who place all of their patriotism in the red, white, and blue, but it is just fabric no matter what it represents. Yes, it is symbolic, but it isn't like they were burning religious texts in order to roast marshmallows, or making people treat the flag badly.

Well, I guess we'll see whether she was right or not depending on what happens here.

My guess? A lot of people will come in and express one viewpoint, and then one person will express a totally different one, and an enormous argument will result from that.

I don't know if that's what she meant by "conversation", though.

Being raised by army vets, and taught by war veterans, I have nothing but respect for the flag. On the other hand, these vets fought for the right to freedom of speech, and that is what this girl was exercising.

Kind of ironic, but I like situational irony. It was her freedom to do so, and not only that, but she was given permission to do it. I see nothing wrong with this.

Not to digress, but if scientists can work on dead corpses to test things, that what is the pain in using another inanimate object, no matter what it represents? Tests are test. Hope it went well for her.

I'd say it is a smart attempt, anyway, if only for the "press" it inevitably will receive.  She had to have known it would draw controversy ... and it has! 

 

As askjesse said, as long as there was/is an option to walk around the flags or whatever ... it could have been an interesting psych observation!  As far as it being unpatriotic, I suppose its all in how one looks at it!  Just my thoughts ...
