"Death by cyber-bully
John Halligan's 13-year-old son took his own life after being humiliated online by peers from his school. Halligan wants parents to know the risks of Internet use."

yeah so those are head lines on boston.com, boston gloab website. That is ridiculous. Do kids honestly have nothing better to do with their time than go online and litteraly torment other kids to death? Thats sick and it makes me very sad that some kids might have thought that it was funny. Do they think it makes thems them cool to be complete assholes to some poor little kid who probly doesnt have lots of friends? I cannot understand that way of thinking. What is it about being a cruel jerk that people think is cool? I feel bad for the boys mother who had to lose her child over something completley just, pointless and ridiculous like this. I feel bad for the boy who to lose his life under those same circumstances. And lastly i deeply pity those children who conributed to his decicion to end his own life. They will have to live their entire lives with that on their concience knowing that maybe if they had a hobby and an actual life they would have to spend their ruining somebody elses. I think people are responsible for their actions, so ultimatley it was the boy who made his decicion to kill himself. But its also his peers responsibiolity to look out for eachother, him included, even if they dont particularly like him and try to help eachother so that they dont make these mistakes. Its our responsibility as human beings to do our best for eachother. Seriously to perople who participate in this "cyber bullying" get a fucking life do you have nothing better to do with your time? Perhaps if your self esteem were not so low you wouldnt feel like you have to make an effort to try and make others feel worse about themselves than you do about yourself.

I just don't see what the difference makes whether it was online or not.  I'm sure they tortured him at school as well and at least he had the option of simply logging off or blocking them online.  The internet has nothing to do with it, it distances pain to some degree.  I imagine it would have been far worse, well, I don't really have to imagine I KNOW

Re: wow
your raise a good point, bullying in general is a loathsome act. And while ithurts more to be bullied in real life (i know too ive been their) i find it more ridiculous from the stand point of the ppl doing the bullying to go to the trouble of getting this persons screen name and spedning their spare time going online to bully them.

Re: wow
lol, Ok, interrupted by Buffy.  I know it's worse to be humiliated in a cafeteria or classroom in front of everyone.  I'm sure there was a lot more to it than just the taunts of his "friends".  I'm sure you remember being a teenager as well.  At least in this scenario no one was armed but it's a shame there wasn't anyone he felt he could talk to.  Which is an example of how the internet can be a good thing, if he had started a mindsay journal for instance he could have vented his fears and frustrations and had support to get through what he was feeling.  It's too bad he didn't know who to turn to just like so many before him.

Re: wow
lol i still am a kid. And im not using this as a knock to the internt. 100% agree with you that their was probly more goig on other than this kid being taunted on the internet. Note i never refered to the kids doing the taunting as his "friends". I think the bottom line is that bullying in any form is a cruel and low thing to take part in. Alot of times in situations when ppl kill themselves their are things going on inside them that we as outsiders cannot understand. Perhaps a chemichal imbalance. I dont know. Its impossivble for me to say cause liek i said im an outsider. I duno if a mindsay acoutn woudl solve that but i agree it could help a little.

Hi *drops off a coke* I just stopped in to say "Thanks" for dropping in at my blog to visit Boo.

What? You got to be kidding about those ass holes thinking about what they did and being sorry for the rest of their lives.

They will be laughing about what they were able to do like that, I mean they killed him and no one can touch them.

Re: wow
and you dont find that the list bit unfortunate? It makes me sick that people act that way

Re: wow
Hey Boo, Hell yes I find it unfortunate! There should be a law that could put all of them away till they turn twenty-five!

But the sad fact is that there is nothing *legal* that anyone can do about it, and all of those little bastards will be snickering about what they got away with till they grow old and die.

I sure hope that you did not think that I condone that kind of stuff. ♥ Wendy

Re: wow
yeah i wasnt sure and I wanted to clarify. Better yet I wish their was a law that could force concience. Then maybe this wouldnt have happened. Once again though, that is unfotunatley impossible.

Hi, yeah it had kind of sounded like I didn't care, but now you know.

Well maybe the boys family will bring a civil suite, and take away everything that them and their famly owns, that would be a good start. ♥ Wendy

Re: wow
i duno. Revenge won't bring him back to life. I just hope people can learn from this so maybe things like this can be avoided in the future. I think the bottom line in all of this that eveyrone can agree on is that people can be terribly cruel and thoughtless and that this is an awful tragedy that shouldnt have happened

Re: wow
i guess what im trying to say is that one family'es lives have been ruined, ruinign more fmailies lives won't make it better, it will just spread thepain and hate. I would hope that people can come together over a thing like this and hopefully find the courage to apologize as to forgive so that hopefully something could be learned. Thats just my oppinion though.

Re: wow
Hi, No it wouldn't really have to be about money. It's just that if you can raise enough hell =

punish the parents and start holding them responsible for their damn juveniles actions =

I'll bet you that all of a sudden mom's and dad's all across America would start tightening up on their brats, and teach them the consequences of their actions.

If such laws work, and they do, to keep kids from skipping school, then they will work for anything.

For some reason mom's and dad's do not seem to relish doing jail time for their teen aged juvenile delinquent daughter who kept cutting classes and going over to Joey's to get screwed every other day.

Up until they say the inside of the jail, they would always make excuses for the way she was = Now she's in reform school, where she really needed to be because mom and dad couldn't handle her.

I'm speaking of several different cases that I am familiar with, not just one, so I know first hand that if you make the parent pay the price, they will pass that same cost on down to their kids, so to speak Boo. ♥ Wendy
