There isn't any fine line between having no stance on anything and thinking anything goes and having a certain stance which is backed up by one's personal belief system- whether that system be an instinct of what is right and what is wrong or a system based on a belief in a God who does not condone everything.
Who began the crazy and silly reasoning that any God has to accept anything and anyone and not have expectations.
Only those who aren't truly educated and understanding of what and who are terrorists lump all middle easterners as basically harmless. They are not.
And in no scenerio whether religious or biological does a vagina fit with a vagina and a penis belong in an anus out of anything but a sexual urge. After all many women love other women and many men love other men- the only difference between platonic and lustful is sex. It just ain't gonna wash with me whether it is 2008 or 321000. And I do not feel hatred towards homosexual people.
As far as women not getting the same pay as men, women have the vote. If this were a true concern then women en masse would stand up, pass laws and vote to change this type of thing through law.
Same again with the gays. When there are enough gay persons to change the law, the law will change. Until then, they are out of luck.
And no,
This country and this planet in general is not ready to not judge someone by the color of their skin whether they are judging a white person for their feelings or a black person for their feelings or a yellow person for their feelings.
Their is absolutely nothing wrong with having a strong stance. You deserve your la-la Utopian view but I as well deserve and am entitled to mine, which incidently is the mainstream otherwise gays would be marrying nationwide...
I'm not one to throw quotes from the Bible around because I feel passages are often taken out of context or taken too literally. However, I think the Bible is pretty clear on the fact that Christians should love one another despite differences. I don't think the Bible is law, but if those who are Christians and do follow Christ and therefore the Bible should, logically, strive to show kindness and compassion to people regardless of race, gender, religion, and yes, sexual preference.
So am I to suppose you are truly educated and truly understand Muslims? That must also be the case with all those people in the deep south who want nothing to do with those "towel headed terrorists". They're just more educated than the rest of us. They truly understand in ways many others who are more accepting and less judgmental cannot. Yes, I'm sure that must be it.
Though there is not definitive evidence that homosexuality is biological, there has been research done on the subject and it seems highly likely that it is indeed biological. I do not believe for one second that homosexuality is a choice. Homosexuality is a mental difference from the norm. Is someone who has, say, depression given less rights than their not depressed counter part?
"Same again with the gays. When there are enough gay persons to change the law, the law will change. Until then, they are out of luck."
I don't understand this claim at all. In the first place, I am heterosexual, but I fully support homosexual marriage. It's not just gay people who are for their rights, others support them in their struggle. Secondly, you're right- currently the majority of Americans are either prejudice against homosexuals or just plain ignorant and scared about homosexuality. For this reason, the vote to allow gay marriage has not passed.
There is a law in place ensuring women equal pay. Unfortunately, it is not enforced well, and furthermore it is hard to prove since most people do not tend to discuss their salary openly. Though women have made great strides in the past hundred years, we still live in a very male dominated society. Women make around 77 cents to every dollar a male makes in the United States. This is unfair, plain and simple. It should not be this way. Women are taught not to stand up for themselves, not to be strong. Many are afraid to or simply don't know how. Those who do stand up are often shot down by our male dominated society.
In America, all citizens are said to have equal rights. So why don't they? Maybe it's a bit far-fetched to hope that people can just accept each other, and judge others based on their character, intellect, and personality. But I'm not sorry that I have hope that one day things will be different.
First, this is a poorly worded argument. Especially for an argument that attempts to establish that only people who are educated understand Muslims and/or to be dangerous. That is, assuming that I read your reply properly. It was my understanding that our nation was founded on the principles of freedom...no matter who a person is or what their ethnic or religious background. To assume that because a person hails from a certain region of the earth is dangerous because of their skin color or belief is narrow minded and simply proves the lack of education you attempt to claim.
To assume that the actions of a small group of radicals accurately represents the thoughts, ideals, and wishes of an entire population is just ridiculous. That's akin to saying that because of the KKK all white people want to hang black people in their own front yard by burning crosses. All black people smoke and deal crack while killing "crips" or "bloods" All feminists are bra-burning lesbians. All Christians are homophobic, racist, and hypocritical hill-billies that want nothing more than to nuke the middle east until it's a solid sheet of glass. To base judgement on a people by the actions of a very small percentage of the population and call them all dangerous is simple ignorant. With that kind of mentality, why don't we just go ahead and jail the entire population of the United States...after all, if some people commit crimes, everyone must be dangerous.
Perhaps you would benefit from spending some time in a part of the world where you're an ethnic minority. Where all the people assume that Americans are fat, lazy, ignorant morons who cling to the 1950's and the last vestiges of racism. The world is changing into a global community, people should accept that or the transition will be much more difficult.
I'm not saying that all people are wonderful, progressive minded, peace loving individuals. Just that being ignorant and intolerant makes you no better than the fundamentalist terrorists who caused this thinking in the first place.
And I've only lived in LC for a few months, but I'm really loving it so far. It's a nice New Mexico town.
