please go read my reply to rv re: his *engineered pandemic* blog, and then go to the nhs website page re: swine flu and read it in it's entirety; i think it will give you a lot of information to consider. for my two cents (and remember i've never been pregnant): today, pregnant women are advised to abstain from certain things (sushi, caffiene, etc) and advised not to use even otc meds for say, a cold. this is a recently developed vaccine with no history of side-effects. since most cases are mild (and truly, i couldn't tell swine flu symptoms from regular flu...i guess the only way to confirm is an antibody test), i'd just take super-good care to wash your hands ALOT, eat healthily and take your pre-natal vitamins. from what i understand, the most affected groups are the very young, the very old and those with pre-existing conditions, like copd and heart disease. like me. which is why i decided not to go for a bartending job at the big sports bar next to i-20...too many people, too many people that are passing through from other places and me with an already challenged immune system. i'll take my chances with the old folks....people less likely to get out and about and be exposed. and that said, i remember when i started at assisted living after not working for almost a year...took me only 10 days before i was hit with a bad-ass case of the flu that lasted for almost 3 weeks. it was so bad that i went to the er and this was just your regular case of yearly flu. ((((((((((((((myckie and lump)))))))))) you take care of y'all.
This is pretty much what I was thinking except for the fact that I actually work with young kids so that's where all of the vacillation is coming from.
I'm sure I have an immunity built up for some viruses, but I doubt I have one for the swine flu. LOL!
PLease please get the flu shot.... you come in contact eith way to many people in the real world let alone Mind....lol
This is true, but I really am concerned about how this flu shot will affect unborn babies. I don't think there's enough research in this matter.
As someone who's considered part of the "vulnerable population" for flu shots, because of being diabetic, I get a regular flu shot every year. But with this H1N1 vaccine, I'm not planning to. I haven't done a lot of research on it, but the long term health risks aren't known, and the fact that it's so new just kind of bothers me. How much do they really know about this *new* strain of flu much less how to vaccinate for it? It seems like they're pushing it through without making sure it's absolutely safe. There's a large medical center in my area and I've heard that doctors are refusing to get the vaccine, which speaks volumes to me. If they can't predict the long term risks for those already born, I can't help but wonder what kind of effect the vaccine would have on an unborn baby. Just my two cents, another "never been pregnant" person.
And reading some of RV's posts, I wonder if the regular flu shot is even safe. *sigh* I just try to remember what's been already proven, what doesn't require relying on trusting the government - it's not that I'm saying "the Obama administration is evil and they're trying to kill the population with swine flu", but when all this first happened at the end of last school year, it seemed like it was blown out of proportion, and its happening again now that school's started again. History has proven that you can control the population through fear. Could this just be another example (rhetorical of course)?
