I am so glad you and your family are great.. we have been getting updates here, and its been great to kinda know that you were doing ok...other than having to take a shower and brush your teeth out of a dixie cup practically, lol!
It sucks to go from connected to the world to isolated ..but I hope you felt our prayers!

Yes, I certainly did. I'm telling you when the weather cooled down to 59 degrees I KNEW God was working for the people in Southeast Texas. That is absolutely unheard of this time of year.

Yeah. I think the weather is one reason (other than organization) that people haven't gotten so crazy around here. It feels and looks more like fall than summer around here.
Since I live at school I have power. I'm sure that my family has power at their homes again. One of my friends has power at her town home and a friend of mine is suppose to get power by Monday at his apartment. I can't believe it's going to take that long to get your electricity up! I hope it doesn't take that long. It's good to hear that your house didn't take any damage really.
Saturday at my friend's apartment complex there were people who were outside drinking and grilling. That was a really hot night! It's really amazing how people come together in times like these.

Saturday was ridiculously hot. I was trying to read and it was too hot to read! My poor brother was trying to write rap lyrics and he was too hot to think. LOL!
I got so tired of the heat and needed some relief so bad I got naked and stepped in the pool at the apartment complex for a while. The power was out so no one could see me (no one was around anyways). The only thing that would have given me away is how white I am. I really do glow in the dark, lol!
At least it feels nice outside now! I can't help but sit outside as much as I can right now.

As much as it sucked so much ass knowing people personally who are continuing to be screwed by Ike, the worrying and the tears were a blessing. It touched me deeply and personally to where I couldn't help but, well, help. You just can't fathom what hurricanes do to people unless you see it up close.
We really miss you guys! We wish we could do something to help you personally, all of you. But we can only help the many who are stranded here. I guess it's sort of like making a donation to a charity in your name. I know, big wooo, huh? LOL!
I'm glad your kid isn't freaking out or acting like I would be, huddled in a corner crying about Ike coming back to beat me again.
Kids are awesome when it comes to making the best out of pure shit. We always want to protect them, but then we realize a lot of the time its US that needs the protecting, because they're just fine and freakin dandy.
I hope the power doesn't stay off THAT long....that's just ungodly.
Something I forgot to ask you while you were on the phone....I met a man named Roland. He goes to Houston all the time since Ike to give people ice and water and what have you. If I can coordinate your locations, I can send with him some gas in some gas cans for you. He donates the gas himself...I just need to point him in the direction of some people who really need it. I'm also going to be riding along to Houston with a crew to serve food to the workers, as well as water and other stuff to help them throughout the day. When I find out the exact day, time, and place, we can see if it's anywhere near you so maybe I can stop in and say hi. Love you guys!

Exactly, that's why I want to get it to YOU, and I can do that with the help of Roland. You just gots to tell me where you is and I can arrange a meet-up point.
Glad to see you're still alive & kickin' and have a positive attitude.
Kids usually do handle adversity better - they don't know it's adversity, to them, it's fun.
I tell you what, there's nothing like a natural disaster to put things into perspective. I truly feel like we totally lucked out.
You've got that right.
You've got that right.
Yep, I know what you mean...
12" of rain in 5 days back in June - I don't feel too bad about a little water in my basement from when the AC went out for less than a minute and the sump pump didn't run, when entire cities in the state were being completely flooded.
Good to hear that you are well! My kids finally got power- it is hard to imagine what it is like to feel so cut off and unable to escape it all. Texted my son on Saturday morning when I woke up... his first question is where is the eye? The second eyewall was just going through downtown- he could hear it, but didn't know what the status was.... cell phone draining, he had to find time to go out to his truck to plug it in so he would have a way to keep in touch. The heat, ruined / flooded areas due to broken windows and roofs... the lack of refrigeration/food... water. The depth of the impact doesn't really sink in, the implications are so far beyond what first comes to mind. Hang in there. At least there isn't another storm headed there THIS weekend- after a string of them, you need a break!
Downtown got it bad. I'm glad your kids have power. I was worried about the people who did get water damage. I'm so afraid of mold!
i'm glad that you and your family are safe and your house only had minimal damage! no power sux though! i know how inconvenient it is especially for that long...i panic in a blackout and the longest one i've had is about 8 hours.
hope the power comes back soon! but sounds like you're all doing ok, good to know
