Attainable, but Elusive

My mom and I were on the phone talking about how we are both not looking forward to our final fittings for our dresses for my sister's wedding.  I spent almost a year fretting about trying to lose weight before the wedding. Some months I did well and other months I just said "screw it".

We talked about how hard it is to wake up everyday worrying about what to eat and how much exercise to do or even how to motivate ourselves to do it.  It's just an on going battle!  Meanwhile, there are tons of commercials and programs about "how I did it and how you can do it, too.", not to mention we are being fed image after image of fit and skinny (not always fit) individuals in the media. Add to this the steady stream of dubious health reports that come out about the dangers of being overweight.  

Finally I said, it's like we are aspiring toward a goal that is possible, yet elusive.  It's like me aspiring to be the best singer in the world. I mean I can carry a tune, but I'm no Patti LaBelle or Aretha Franklin.   Better yet it's like me aspiring to not only run, but come within the top 10 finishers in a marathon.  Sure I could train to run a marathon, but come within the top ten finishers?  Probable, but not likely.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not selling myself short by any means.  These analogies were made to illustrate how hard it is for some of us to lose weight and keep it off.

We finally laughed and agreed if push comes to shove, it is probably less nerve wracking to just get the damn dresses let out.  LOL!
