At the urging of some Christians (and also some of the non-Christian followers of Jesus) I read the Bible. Some of these missionaries had traveled to other continents to distribute copies of this “holy” book to "unbelievers" and to people who followed the teachings of other "gods" and sages. Later, after I had read the Jewish scriptures, to which Christians applied the ethnocentric and pejorative label "old," and also the Christian scriptures, the "new," I was skeptical of this practice, since the "god" or "lord" of the "old" text was not merely hostile but homicidal and even genocidal toward peoples other than those this "lord" considered "his" own "chosen" favorite people to whom he had, strangely, "promised" lands upon which others already lived.

Man, when you put it this way, it all just sounds so scary =[

Re: 20 CHRISTIANITY
It is scary -- and those who do it are not aware of this perspective. It's like asking indigenous peoples of the Americas to watch movies about cowboys and indians.

Re: 20 CHRISTIANITY
that was my response on the bible as well. for such a great man , he had a  weird sick sense of humor to save us all, i grew up penacostal-baptist.. but in my later years  denouced it all.

the bible was written by man which has been translated and rewritten many time in different languages and written in their perspective..

I am tempter to write my hero in capitals letters and then to find that emoticon that blinks a lot.

Re: 20 CHRISTIANITY
It's wonderful to have another human being, express in words, my exact sentiments, that I could not articulate nearly so well myself.

Sorry for all the commas, but as I tried to convey, I don't express myself as well as I would like sometimes.

You are the Shakespeare of Truth for the 21st century. At least IMO

You make me happy.

Re: 20 CHRISTIANITY
Thank you. I am glad. It's the (my) highest honor to make another human being happy.

And you make me realize I am not alone in the world... that someone else feels as I do... and thankfully is able to share these sentiments without fear of recrimination in a public forum.... it's liberating to say the least.

Thank you.

Re: 20 CHRISTIANITY
According to the Bible, God created people. According to the Bible, a lot of people decided that they didn't want anything to do with God. According to the Bible, God has a tendency to regard what he's created as belonging to him. According to the Bible, God wanted a people who wanted him, too. According to archaeology, the inhabitants of said land were involved in some practices that, according to the Bible, God felt that the people who still knew him would pick up, which would cause them to abandon the lifestyle he wanted for them, which would cause them to no longer be the people who were seeking him.

Re: 20 CHRISTIANITY
If you believe it's fine to commit homicide and even genocide simply because a people hold the wrong religious beliefs, no problem.
