Maria's quite the busy little bee, in gym class one day a week and art class another.  We've also hit both the zoos in our area with plans to go back lots.  She seems to prefer Lincoln Park where the penguins (pingus) can swim right past her giggling squealing face!  She also likes the underwater viewing of the sea lions.  When we were there last week a giant gorilla was sitting right in front of the window, Maria walked right up to him (her?) and they stared at each other for a long time.  When the gorilla got up and started walking away Little Miss Bossy shouted out "Come back here, monkey!" Smiley

Gym class is going well, though Maria's not too interested in sitting for circle time she loves the activities.  This past week she was swinging from a trapeze bar and loving every minute of it.  And she has really enjoyed getting into things at art class.  She LOVES glue and glue sticks and painting can keep her interest for quite some time.  It's so much fun to watch her interacting with the other kids in tboth classes and of course it's great to see the things she makes in art.

We've had another explosion of vocabulaty around here.  Now our little chatterbox is talking pretty much non-stop frmo the moment she wakes up in the morning til she falls asleep at night.  One of her newer phrases "guess what?" has us cracking up.  And she tells knock knock jokes, sort of....she'll say "knock, knock.....banana whoooo?"  She's been listening to Doug's jokes and since he gets a laugh she wants to tell them, too.  We've also been introdiced to the toddler anthem of "mine, Mine, MINE!"  Ah the joys. Smiley

Today we're off to a (kinda) local Strawberry Festival where she should be in heaven since she loves strawberries.  On the agenda: chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry donuts, and strawberry smoothies while we listen to the music and watch the balloon animal makers and maybe, just maybe get a caricature (sp?) of our little lady.

Me again. Just talked to Melanie and Raechel.

Raechel's favorite as always was to see a bear. She called him Pappa.

She loved the Buttereflies too but was bored with the whales.

Re: Time's Flying
Sounds like she had quite an eventful trip to the zoo!

Re: Time's Flying
The butterflies were the only thing they liked about Niagara Falls.
They went to an amusement park and Melanie said she never wants to go to one again in her life.
They saw the Bear at a nature preserve somewhere between Toronto and Kingston.

Re: Time's Flying
oops, sorry, I assumed it was a zoo trip!  You tell Melanie "never say never!" Raechel might grow to love amusement parks and she just may love them because of that

I'm with Maria, I love Lincoln Park Zoo, doesn't matter how many times I've been there I love it.  I think it's one of the best zoos in the country and I've been to a lot of zoos, lol.

Re: Time's Flying
Everyone around here shouts from the roof about Brookfield, and it is a nice zoo, but for getting some great up close views of the animals it's hard to beat Lincoln Park.  Plus there are so many great restaurants nearby to try out once you've had your fill of the aminals.

I just love the surrounding parks and one of my all time favorite places in Chicago is Garfield Observatory.  I just love that place and it's a must-do if I'm at the Zoo.

Ooh I haven't been there in a while.  I'll have to add it to our list.  Thanks for the reminder

Re: Time's Flying
You're welcome.

Ok, this will sound completely dorky, but when I was a kid, I'd go there and pretend I lived in the 1920's and I lived in one of the mansions off the lake and I was taking a stroll through my observatory before going out to meet my lady friends for lunch, LOL!

Re: Time's Flying
That sounds like something you would do!  I, on the other hand, would put on a southern accent (that I wouldn't lose for anything, no matter where we went) and pretended I lived on a farm talking to my mom about needing to go out to milk the cows and asking who went to get the eggs from the chicken coop.  Yeah, that's right, I wanted to be a farmer.  Maria better come up with something a bit more glamourous
