Hello!
I'm finally back from my rather lovely time in Great Britain. I did an amazing amount of stuff every day there, so it's nice to be able to relax. On my trip I got to finally make my pilgrimage to the site of Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett's shops on Fleet Street.

More very exciting news! (For me, anyway.) The first official pictures are here of Tim Burton's upcoming 3D movie Alice in Wonderland!!!!!!!!!!! From what I have heard of the story, it is not the same as the book, and concerns Alice returning to Wonderland when she is older. The movie stars many of my favorite actors (Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter). Also, Burton and Bonham Carter's two young children, who are very cute, will make a cameo. The film already looks brilliant, and I look forward to the seventh collaboration of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Better yet, the film will open March 5, 2010, just six days before my birthday, and 20 years since the two of them began working together. Therefore, I plan for my party to be a movie marathon of their films which will commence in going to see Alice in Wonderland. So, here are two pictures of characters from the movie.

This is (obviously) Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Isn't he scary? Isn't he awesome? He sort of looks like a handsome, yet deranged clown. I especially like his orange hair and yellow eyes.

And here is the lovely Ms. Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. She also looks quite bizarre in a really cool away. Her head is digitally enlarged. And apparently, her character is evil.

Tell me what you think of these pictures! Personally, I think the way these characters look is genius.
I'm also going to see Public Enemies pretty soon, so I'll tell you guys how Depp did.

I'm not sure I would describe Johny Depp's character as "handsome." He does look very interesting, in a slightly disturbing way. The Red Queen looks awesome.

I think this movie will be good, but I am a bit dubious. As a fan of the original, I can't help but worry that Wonderland will be changed too much. : /

Okay, I agree, maybe "handsome" is not the right word. ( I guess I'm sort of biased.) But he has such an unusual, angular and well-proportioned face that he can pull of the most bizarre of looks and not look ridiculous. The same goes for Ms. Bonham Carter.

Unfortunately, from my understanding of the movie it will be quite different from the book, if that is what you mean by the original. I'm a fan of the book, which is awesome, and I liked the animated Disney version when I was younger. However, I find myself thinking of the movie as sort of separate from the previous forms this story has taken, like one of those books that is a modern twist on fairy tale characters. I think the idea of the movie is that it will be a sequel to the original story, that uses the same characters and settings and pays homage to the original.

Re: Alice in Wonderland
Yeah, I guess I should just think of them as separate, like The Wizard of Oz and Wicked.

Re: Alice in Wonderland
Exactly, I was thinking of that example. I do love the book, though, and wish someone would make a really good yet accurate movie of it. I just hope that they do a job on the screenplay, and make it fairly bizarre and not too cheesy and "Hollywood-ish".

I'm excited, it sounds great!

Alice in wonderland is great, but with Tim Burton directing it, I can't help but to think it could only improve, since I enjoy his work a lot.

The movie sounds so cool! I mean, with the Red Queen's digitally enlarged head and Johnny Depp with orange hair and yellow eyes, what more reason is there to see it?

And Alan Rickman as the caterpillar.
