Sims

Tomorrow in class we are discussing the digital game The Sims.

Personally i enjoyed playing Sim Tower. When The Sims were first coming to digital gaming i found them quite boring. Pobably because i was using a 386 or a 486 at the time. As i upgraded my computer got faster and the resolution changed the game entirely.

I was first hooked on Sims Tower when I built my first 100 story hotel/appartmen/condo with a skylobby on the 60th floor and everything from shopping malls to movie theaters underground. The goal is starting at a 1 STAR * rating and hopefully build it up to a 5 star hotel. Every new addition to the hotel you make brings in money so that you can continue to construct a taller or larger building. You get money from rent/hotel/theater/shopping malls/fitness clubs...

But there is a catch. Everything doesn go so smooth. You might be infested with cockroaches, noisy tenants, bad ticket sales to movies, or worse people moving out. SO you need to maintain the building as best as possible. You may even be visited by the health inspectors randomly and lose your liscence for the building.

Cool game, youll be addicted. Not a hard game to grasp either unlike the Sims Family or other simulations from Maxis.

Klines article on sim city discusses Will Wrights first Sim City. The distributor Broderbund feared it might be percived as too educational, so they added special disaster options. Jokes went around naming the newest of the Sims as Sims Osama. Wow just wow.

Re: Sims
Although I have played the sims, I never really got into it that much. I had a friend who loved it so I used to play it alot with her. She also liked those pet simulation games where you look after a kitten or puppy or whatever. I think what MacTavish said about those types of simulation games being similar to dollhouses is very accurate. I hated playing with dolls and she loved it so maybe thats why she got into it more than me. However, I did like the rollercoaster tycoon one, mainly because you got to build stuff. Anyways, I think alot of kids liked the early sims games because they were different. After a while it seems like their popularity dwindled (but I could be wrong about that).
BTW I like your background...its the same as mine but pink...and mines emo because my blog likes to sit in the corner and cry black tears (or I guess red since its red)

Hey i just noticed your reply, hopefully your still going to use your blog so you actually get this....

Rollercoaster tycoon was the best especially when you get to ride your own coaster. But they have a Sims Themepark (i think) where you can do the same but build concession stands and make money, charge gate prices etc. Im gonna go try and find that now so i know what im talking about.

I actually noticed that your background was the same as mine when Mctavish posted yours on the screen. Interesting....... Pretty funny how you yelled out NO like you were embarrased. Cute 8)

Re: Sims
I had a hard time picking a background because they are all kinda lame. And im not a hard core blogger type person so I guess I get kinda afraid people are going to think I am an advocate of my theme or something lol. I never played the sims themepark one but its probably really similar. Except in rollar coaster tycoon the focus wasn't on interacting with the people whereas with the sims it may be.
