Marijuana should be legal.  It is a crazy messed up situation that a plant with this many beneficial qualities should after 10,000 years of helping man find it's biggest enemy in the one nation that claims to be all about the home of the brave and land of the free.  Land of the free not to disagree.  This issue has more implications than simply those who use it for medical use, recreational use or to solve the energy crisis, economic crisis what have you.  The issue really boils down to my personal freedom.  If I smoke bud I am less likely to be a violent person as opposed to drinking alcohol which has been legal because of the "fucked up" situation with prohibition.  Listen not to me but the experts on this subject.  We as a country spend trillions on this useless war on drugs which has not brought a decrease in usage but rather an increase in violence and drug use.  The war on drugs does not help our government control their use and abuse it helps to give power to drug dealers and the cartels which are the illegal pharmacuetical companies and just as corrupt. (hmmm.)

I personally don't believe in homosexual activities as they are not for me, but in the name of personal freedom, if done between consenting adults then by all means go and enjoy your liberty.  The same goes for bud.  Who the f..k cares what I do in peace and quiet when I do not infringe upon others freedoms?

I could go on and should, simply to try and keep sane, but I will stop for now and leave you with this,

Some of the very proponents of legalizing marijuana are those who were paid by our government to villify it and persecute those who use it in any one of its many uses  (i.e. former policemen, former DEA agents and big dady DEA leading agent of the 90's)  If this government who by the minute use this as an excuse to build an incredibly large police force daily and daily continues to infringe and blatantly subvert our freedoms as freethinking americans in whatever manner they see fit continues, the world that we will see will not be a far cry from that described in 1984 (George Orwell) or any of the other major dystopian novels of the 20th century.

In the name of personal freedoms legalize it, tax it to generate revenue ( similar to the 21st amendment) and regulate it.  Historically no government could regulate that which was illegal.

Peace

Even though I'm not a user, I agree...

I'll even go further by saying all drugs (and prostitution) should be legalized!

What's legal can be regulated, what's regulated can be taxed, what's taxed is revenue.

I agree, though I think bud makes you insane with a split personality in the long run. Real freedom comes from being able to think with a clear head... just from my experience. I would be upset to walk in school one day and either a). everyone is retardedly giggly for muchies or b). they decided to stay home and sleep.

Whoa. That's quite a view..... I'm thinking you must have some concrete reason for coming to this conclusion, but may I add that I disagree. I know a lot of people that smoke it regularly, and have for a long time, who are perfectly sane. Not only sane, but highly intellectual. I'm sure, like with alcohol, it effects different people differently, lets not make broad sweeping statements about everyone that smokes it without proof though, lol. Meth, on the other hand....I've seen that turn a few. Acid, more then a few. Crack, oh yeah. The pattern here is man made drugs.

Re: Marijuana use(i.e. personal freedoms)
That's probably true in their cases. I think if affects each individual that tries it very differently. For better or for worse is the eye of the beholder. (Assuming you've tried it) You didn't feel a change in your personality at all? I guess that goes along with frequency of use.. still- with all "good" drugs if abused, they become a dependency. Just speaking on my case with Marijuana: I personally think it pays off to function without it.

Re: Marijuana use(i.e. personal freedoms)
No I don't believe I've ever experienced changes in my personality, there are effects of the drug, of course, but not to which you speak of. I agree with you dependency. I also think sometimes that depends on the person, whether they have an addictive personality or not, but I wouldn't classify myself as an "abuser" of the drug either. Nor the people I spoke of above. It's not like a "should I pay my rent or buy pot?" kind of thing, it's social, not needed per say. And by all means, if you function better without it, good for you for making that decision, I certainly wouldn't want to push it's use on anyone. It's a personal decision, and you have made yours, I applaud that! I just didn't think I agreed with the whole spit personality thing! loll

I do too. And it's sad. What's worse is for everyone person I know like that with pot, I know of at est 5 people who are like that with legal prescription drugs. Vicodin and Xanax abuse run rampant in this town!

Ha, well no I don't think you go completely skitzo when you use it. Not at all, I think it changes you altogether- Your decisions, the way you act, the things you do over a span of time. I dunno, everyone probably has their good and bad things with it.

I agree with you completely.  It should be legalized and regulated.  It'd definitely be a good cash crop for small farmers if regulations were in place prohibiting growing it in certain large quantities, preventing corporations from cashing in on it.

But, as you said, freedom comes from being able to think with a clear head.  I avoid mind-altering substances.
