Isn't it great to see your mother enjoying the geek world? My mother (93!) had dialup service for years, so her kids couldn't send her any content-heavy emails or links that we routinely shared with others. So we convinced her to expand her cable TV service to get internet, too. But she was 1,000 miles away and we didn't want her to have to worry about virus and security issues on broadband. What to do? I got her set up with a Linux distro ("Mint"), and she's flying along great with no worries because Linux is unaffected by the viruses her old Windows XP would have fallen victim to. It all works. Plus it's a totally free OS.
