About a week ago, my mom pulled up her email and asked me a question about someone listed as "available" for her chat status. Anyway, we talked about chat for a few minutes.

Now, my mom is not that tech savvy, but she is getting better every day. And she loves to try new things and learn new things (wonder where I got that from?).

Anyway, I got to work tonight and logged on to my computer and decided to check my email. It is deadsville in here tonight, probably because it is 40 degrees and raining outside, or else bc the Twins are playing the game of the year tonight.

Either way, super slow at work and I immediately log in to check my email. I wasn't online for more than a minute when my chat screen flicks on and...it's my mom!

So I am sitting here at work, watching the Twins on GameCast, writing a blog, checking my email, occasionally answering questions to customers, and chatting with my mom. How awesome is that?

I love my job!

Re: Techno-family
Isn't it great to see your mother enjoying the geek world?  My mother (93!) had dialup service for years, so her kids couldn't send her any content-heavy emails or links that we routinely shared with others.  So we convinced her to expand her cable TV service to get internet, too.  But she was 1,000 miles away and we didn't want her to have to worry about virus and security issues on broadband. What to do?  I got her set up with a Linux distro ("Mint"), and she's flying along great with no worries because Linux is unaffected by the viruses her old Windows XP would have fallen victim to.  It all works.  Plus it's a totally free OS.
