I wonder if I can control the universe with the power of my mind?

I am starting to think so. Doesn't it seem like I have an awful lot of moments of synchronicity? No one else seems to notice these as often as I do--or if they do, they don't report it as often as I do. And I often have episodes that I don't blog about because of time or whatever. Which leads me to wonder, am I more observant than others, thus producing the synchronicity effect more often, or, do I, in fact, control the universe with my mind?

Today, I was sorting a cart of books for reshelving. One of the books (and only one) fell off the cart as I was pushing it. They were packed on there pretty tightly so I was surprised that one fell off. Before I could pick it up, one of my bosses grabbed it and got all excited. It was a book called The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. She started telling me all about this book and how much she loves it and on and on. That's fine. It isn't my cup of tea, but I am glad she was so excited about it.

-THEN-

About 10 minutes later the phone rang and I picked it up. It wasn't busy at all and this was the first call I got today. The woman says to me, "do you have The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood checked in?" No freaking kidding.

Obviously I knew that it was checked in since I had held it in my hand minutes before.

Okay, so that is weird enough, but then.....

A guy called me over to his computer and told me he was having trouble making the page load. I checked it out and I couldn't make it work, so I switched his browser and we went to the site he was at. He told me he was trying to load a television show in case that makes any difference. It doesn't, at all, but I had some time to kill so I said, "whatcha watching?". He said, "Bones."

Bizarre? Not really....

...but then I said, "Oh I love that show, are you watching the new ones?" And he said, "no, I am trying to catch up and I am watching the old ones." I said that I am doing that exact same thing and asked where he was and he said, "the one I am trying to load is called The Passenger in the Oven."

Now, that is weird.

I actually told him about the blog I JUST wrote about that episode and while this might have fallen under the category of TMI, he did agree that this was weird.

Now, both of these episodes happened within a couple hours of each other. That's fairly unusual, right? So I have to think that it is somehow me that is causing these connections. So I am going with Mistress of the Universe.

That will now be my official title and, henceforth, I expect to be addressed as such.

P.S. Apropos of nothing, the title of the blog makes me think of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series from when I was a kid. My brothers were big He-Man fans and I usually played the role of She-Ra. I also had a She-Ra doll that was about half the size of a Barbie Doll--I taught myself how to french braid hair on that tiny little doll and that is still a skill I retain today. See how educational toys can be?

Re: Mistress of the Universe
. . . and just think, it all began with a trip to Seattle and a man by the name of Christian Kane . . .remember how you were the only one permitted to go on stage . . . little did you know you were then basking in the rays of a mystical aura in preparation for future alignment with your ethereal destination . . . and the story unfolds . . .  dundundundudun  dundundundun  dundundundun   (think of the theme music from "The Outer LImits" )

Re: Mistress of the Universe
I've never seen the Outer Limits so I had to look up the theme music on line. But now that makes more sense.

And it was Portland, not Seattle, but you are correct: I should put the CK incident on my list of proofs that I am indeed Mistress of the Universe. How else to explain getting on stage? That just doesn't happen to people.

Re: Mistress of the Universe
Dang, I hate being wrong about anything!  How can I maintain my claim as Mystic of the Universe if my memory as well as my powers fail me in pinpointing a celestial feat of the Mistresses mystical prowess!!?  Does the fact that I am in the correct quadrant of the hemisphere count as a redeeming factor?  Indeed, we are not like the
o t h e r s!

Re: Mistress of the Universe
Relax Mystic of the Universe. It is no problem if you forget (and as mystic, I know that you have much to attend to) because I am here to cover for you. AND, as Mistress of the Universe, I freaking DARE anyone to reprimand you for such an insignificant error.

All is forgiven and forgotten. I am on your side.

And, dear, NO, we are not like others.

Re: Mistress of the Universe
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa What I meant to say is, we don't look like anyone else!!

( being that there is only one of you, please permit me this last correction to one significant error: Mistress's) (the Mystic's powers of scrutiny are being compromised)

Re: Mistress of the Universe
Of course YOU may offer corrections to the Mistress at any time. That is part of your purview as Mystic. I shall never be offended by your endeavors to keep us both at the peak of our prowess.

It is part of your right and duty as the Mystic.

And your power is in no way compromised. (or, more correctly, if it is compromised, simply tell me and as Mistress I shall imbue you with more power--as is my right)

And while we in no way resemble others...there is more than our features that set us apart!

i see i did miss a blog. i'll have to remember to bow next time i see you. do you have a tiarra yet?

Re: Mistress of the Universe
That's sweet. But the Mistress of the Universe doesn't wear a tiara. I am worthy of a crown. And sceptre. And a cape. Purple. (The color of royalty).

And while you are welcome to bow...I'd really prefer that you simply downcast your eyes and whisper "all hail Mistress of the Universe" it is more understated, you understand?
