Sad but true....
I'm trying to make Sydneysiders more friendly by smiling at them, maybe you can broaden the outlook of your countrymen.

), though we haven't quite reached the stage of a percentage of people in the "I can't get out of bed and I wash myself with a rag on a stick" category (What an awful image, I believe I stole that from the Simpsons). I think what is considered obese here in Oz is actually a lot smaller than in the States so people get help sooner, that and the fact that we have free health care. Most restaurants also serve smaller portions than what the average American would be used to.
As far as coffee is concerned the best way to lighten the bitterness of a cup is with a pinch of salt. I do occasionally drop in a piece of dark chocolate (YUM!) or a teaspoon of sugar, but syrup. . .I haven't even heard of that.

I hope to never work in customer service ever again.
OTO, I found Puerto Ricans quite obnoxious when we traveled to the Caribbean. I guess they're Americans since we took their island, but *shrug*
Rant all you wish, you've earned it. Don't be afraid!
I dearly want to visit Australia but the airfare alone would kill me. I'd be nice, honest. Once I got over my jet lag and was conscious, of course.

I think I was a little afraid because I spent most of the day watching my sense of humour in the fear that I'd offend someone who just didn't get it.
Yes the airfare is HUGE! especially since I personally got my hands on your economy and lifted interest rates, and price of airline fuel. <insert evil laugh> such economic power for such a little receptionist
I was actually hoping to visit the states this year but after being unable to work for the last couple of months the bills have built up and I wont be able to stretch it to the states (even with industry rates on airfares and accommodation). We have saved enough to get to the UK and Croatia where we'll be staying with relatives
And, of course, there are the European tourists, too. However, I will say I have never met anyone from your neck of the woods that was anything other than delightful.

The Europeans are another kettle of fish altogether . .but for some reason infinitely less frustrating. Maybe because we have so many EU staff, we can generally get someone to make them feel at ease.

It probably doesn't hurt that I love what I do, it's stressful at times and the hours are hell, but my workday/night is spent speaking to interesting people from al over the world each with different needs and I enjoy the challenge of anticipating them and exceeding them if I can. I'm surprised that someone is willing to pay me for it.
