The work-from-home
data entry job I started a while ago has turned out to be a major PITA for not much $, but I am not ready to give it up yet. For one thing, I don't know of another paying job that I can do in my pajamas at any hour of the day or night. For another thing, I made a commitment to them, and I won't just quit without giving it a seriously good try...at least a few months worth. Thirdly, it's nice to have a little extra money for things like my
planned birthday trip for my mom next year, piano lessons for the boys, etc. On the other hand, I have to be at their beck and call for about 3 weeks starting around the 19th of every month...if you start turning down work because of other commitments, they stop giving you work and instead give it to more "hungry" workers. In exchange for our dedication, we are rewarded with inconsistent and hard-to-predict workloads, terrible communication about when the work is coming in, how much there will be, how long it will last, etc., flaky software systems that often go down for no apparent reason or give error messages that nobody understands, poor or no training on how to use said software systems, and practically non-existent technical support, especially between the hours of 2pm and 7am. Cap that off with a barely-above-minimum-wage paycheck, and you have a recipe for frustration! Still, I think I will keep at it to get my funds for the trip built up and maybe see if this growing little company gets their act together.
We're off shortly for the parent-teacher conference at my older son's school. He is in 4th grade in a special class for highly gifted students...he just transferred to this school in August and therefore attends a different school than our 3rd grader. The teacher was on maternity leave until Nov. 2nd, and the subs who filled in for her created a chaotic classroom environment with very little education going on. It's been frustrating, to say the least. Already the regular teacher is whipping things into shape, but by the end of last week, our son had been to the principal's office 3 times and was NOT having a good experience. I really hope the teacher will turn things around and regain control so we can see whether this program is right for him.
Our beautiful fall weather will soon come to an end, but this week has been GORGEOUS with upper 60s and low 70s and crystal clear blue skies. Did you all see that moon the past couple of nights? Stunning!
