P!nk in 2004:

"If you want to marry 'Joe Millionaire,' go ahead. If you're a celebrity and you want to marry your high school sweetheart for a couple of hours, go right ahead. If you're J.Lo and you want to marry 18 people for six days each, hey go right on ahead! But if you happen to be reasonably minded and have fallen in love and want to marry your soul mate and make a life of it - and you just so happen to be the same sex - then, no, how dare you! You demon creatures! We'd rather you just buy gasoline and support our war and continue to consume and fear in our country so we can make money off you. But do us a favor: Don't hold hands in public."

Re: Hypocrisy and stereotyping
Labeling is what we humans do to make sense out of life.  Our minds have a difficult time with ambiguities, so we make compartments and put our "stuff",  people we meet, situations we find ourselves in into the closest compartment that fits.  If there isn't one that fits, we panic!  For most of us who are heterosexual, the mere thought of a same sex relationship simply does not fit any category with which we are familiar, so we panic.  It does not compute.  I have several friends who happen to be involved in same sex relationships.  I love the people as individuals, but I stiill have a hard time when they kiss in front of me.  I'm not saying it's right or wrong - just saying that because it is different, it is uncomfortable.  That is true of lots of things, not just this.  Ever been the only republican in a room full of democrats (or visa versa)???  Pretty uncomfortable!

Different is uncomfortable because it requires us to concoct a new compartment and deal with the issue.  Many simply avoid this by lashing out and stubbornly refusing to "look" at the different "issue".  I don't know if any of this helps or makes sense to you, but ... right or wrong, left or right, pink or blue, you have to be you.
