We are one step closer to being completely out of debt! Well, except for the house, but don't most people have a house payment for most of their lives anyway? Today I paid off a credit card with a balance of $7279.17! Tomorrow, because I forgot to call today, I am cancelling this card. It feels so good to get rid of this debt! This card has a very high limit so I'd rather just get rid of it then keep it on our credit reports as open, available credit. We have another card with a zero balance, and a high limit that Dale will have to cancel when he gets home as it's in his name. There is still a balance of just over $9000 on our last card. I will have that paid off before Dale gets home in early August. He threatened to return to Iraq, instead of retiring, if I didn't get the credit cards paid off before he came home. Lots of tears (from me of course) many hurtful things said (also from me), and promises to make sure the cards were paid off (again, from me), he gave in and said he will definately retire from the Army when he comes home. This is the only good thing that has come out of his being deployed to Iraq. Fifteen months of tax free money means 2 years of enormous tax refunds, plus the extra money he is making while being over there = getting out of debt.

Now, if we can just win the lottery so I can get that new van, he can get a new truck, we could pay off the house, and Dale could retire permenately!

If it seems like I'm braging, well, yeah, I guess I am. We've had credit card debt for nearly 10 years, and it just feels good to be getting rid of it. Not to mention the fact that if Dale doesn't find a job right away we wouldn't even be able to make the minimum payments on these cards!

Congratulations!  You'll have to call up the Dave Ramsey show and shout "WE'RE DEBT FREE!!!"  Then you can film yourself doing something evil and dastardly to your old cancelled credit cards. lol  We have no debt except for our house and a small payment on one of the kids' college funds, and it is a totally liberating and powerful feeling.  I can't wait to get the house paid off too, but that will take a bit longer.

Thanks. I don't even know what the Dave Ramsey show is. Maybe it's a west coast thing?

Re: Paid in Full!
No, I don't think so.  I know he has a radio show, but also a TV show that might be fairly recent with the creation of the Fox Business Network.  Anyway, mr. labs is really into it.  Ramsey has classes that he runs around the country on helping people to get out of debt, but of course you can get his books at the library and listen to his show without paying a course fee!  Every Friday is debt-free Friday and callers tell him how they got out of debt and then they all yell into the phone, "We're debt free!!!"

Sounds kinda fun. Must not be on the stations I watch/listen to though. Hmm, maybe I have seen the name in the cable channel guide though.

Thanks. Hey, I just opened my facebook. I don't have your email or last name, so you'll have to look me up. My last name is Manning.

That's fantastic!!  Congrats, and I know you'll be able to get that $9000 taken care of too.

Yes, definately. Especially with that additional refund coming in June!

Re: Paid in Full!
That'll really help out too!  And getting the extra money per kid helps too.

Re: Paid in Full!
We don't have webcams because he doesn't have his own internet connection over there. He uses the work computer for email, and his personal laptop for games. Says the internet is too expensive there. I did suggest to him that he put his card in the shredder though.
