But the victims and perpetrators are dead in this case.  A contract can not cross generations, so why should punishment for a debt.  Someone else's debt, I might add.  Not all white people owned slaves or benefited from them.  Actually, it was a fairly small piece of the population.  Heck, there were significant numbers of black slave owners in Louisiana and other deep south states, so should some blacks, because of their great great granddaddy's plantation, be paying back that debt?

As for the national debt, it will never be paid.

there are a good number who have by making donations to historically black colleges.  plus, this isn't about owning slaves...slavery is done.  it's the ongoing prejudices that have been kept alive and well, that to this day holds minirities back, and would hold then back even further if it weren't for equal opportunity employment

But just because some people discriminate against minorities doesn't mean that when you and an equally qualified white person is trying to get into the same school that you should beat him out for a seat so the school can fill a government mandated quota.

You sow so that you may reap.  The process of sowing hurts no one, except the person doing it if they screw up(I know from experience).  And in that case, you plant for more than the harvest.  Both actions(sowing and reaping) are beneficial, neither is questionable.

It's still a problem when similarly qualified people end up fighting for a position and one is hired or enrolled because that person happens to be a minority.

If it's that close, then flipping a coil, alphabetic order of their last names, or the first to apply.  Something objective.

i don't even think that this whole scenario is practiced much at all anymore...it's not needed so much as it was years ago when prejudice would keep qualified minorities out of jobs.

I know that.  In fact, modern racism developed AFTER slavery, during reconstruction, much in the same way modern antisemitism was sparked by the devastation wrought on Germany following World War I.

As for the aborting black babies thing, if you killed all the black drug dealers, there are plenty of white and Mexican drug dealers to take their place.  Blacks happen to be the local majority of the population in many of these areas where most of the criminals are black.  In poor, crowded, white communities, the majority of the criminals should, theoretically, be white.

What I personally advocate is equal treatment.  No favors, no nothing.  Take each man as he comes, regardless of race.  Minorities should not benefit from government programs more than whites in the same general demographic do, and should not suffer more.

okay, but if you start from the beginning a minority starts from behind the beginning because of prejudices and such against them, governemt programs are helping then to catch up.

if you and your family have been farming, and a minority family has been struggling farming because of prejudices in bartering, trading, neighbors helping, etc, then this person has not been given the same help that you have...these government programs are temporary programs to help minorities catch up to the majority of farmers

There are almost no blacks here, but I know a black farmer.  He faces all the same money and equipment problems I do, but it's not quite as bad for him as for be because he has a bit more land, and a bit newer equipment, so his margins are better.  Otherwise, when he sells oats, he gets the same number of dollars per bushel that I do, he pays the same for fuel, and we're both subject to the same property taxes, building maintenance costs, steel and parts costs, etc.

When it comes to small farming operations, there's no catching up to do.  We're all so far behind the rest of society that it's sort of like helping the guy with no legs catch up in a foot race to the guy whose legs are paralyzed.
