I have made a new post on cinek10 on Sense and Sensibility, peep it!

It's Tuesday, tomorrow is my sister's birthday and Thursday I register for classes. w00t!  This morning Jake (from the bus stop) told me about the house across from me.  It's for sale, that's why we got on the subject, and this was our first time seeing the 'for sale' sign from the bus stop because this was the first time since the sign has been up that it's not been too dark for us to see.  Anyway, he was told that in the late '80 the house was known as 'Club Genoa' and it even had a shuttle that would bring people in and a pool were the pond and basketball court/deck is now (the pond is to the left and out of the shot).  Sorry couldn't get a better pic...

You can pretty much tell the place wasn't built to be lived in, it doesn't look structurally sound at all.  There are window units sticking out all over it and broken windows taped up.  One thing that it does look, though, is interesting.

As far as registration goes I plan to take as many required polisci classes that are open, French 201 and/or Chemistry and who knows what else.  It sucks because I am ALWAYS one of the last to be allowed to register.  I have no idea, really.  I want to take Chem, French, and Comm over the summer, but I don't want to put them off because I don't know if I'll have money to take them over the summer.  BEING POOR SUCKS SO MUCH!

I am so ready to have money!  I know I want to get some sort of graduate education, but I NEED to have a degree so I can get a somewhat decent job to have some sort of income.  Maybe I'll do night classes or something...but whatever I do I need this degree first so...I need to work out a means of affording it.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sad about it all though.  Pretty much everyone I know that went to college is graduating this year.  I'm gonna be one notch under the old people in class.  It's gonna be father time, then me, then some tiny little scared freshman.  Oh, lord...I'm depressing myself!...I've decided to get it into my mind that I have three semesters ahead of me.  I'll be fine!

lol, w00t for Alan Rickman in S&S!

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Yesss.........I sorta figured he was the reason you watched it.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
lol same here! I, on the other hand, would watch for Ang Lee. That man can do no wrong! Never really been a fan of Alan Rickman though.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
no wrong?  how about Hulk (2003)?

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Well, yeah. I became a fan of Ang Lee after this movie and was very impressed by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as well.  However, afterwards (and this is pre-Titanic) mind you, I was crazy about Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.  Titanic kinda was a disappointment to me. It was made for my age group and everything (I was 15, how perfect should that movie have been for me, oh well). Yeah, I still enjoy Kate. Great actress.  Emma too, even though she's getting old, whoops did I say that?

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Kate has gone so soft lately. This open letter to Kate asks her in some, well, choice words not to go the route that Gwyneth did. Oh Gwynnie... she was so promising at one time too =(

I still like Kate & Emma too. I really wanna see Emma in An Education. Grrr, when is that coming to San Antonio!

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Yes, I agree that the films the Academy and the Globes went wild over (let's not even mention the names of those films) were less than stellar and that they just gave the awards to her. GRR!

Yeah at one time I really liked Gwyneth as well. Iron Man (to me) was such garbage. I barely was able to make it to the end of the film and then I wondered what all the hoopla was about.

Like I think I said, Emma Thompson has a very small role in An Education. But the whole film was to die for. I hope you see it soon. Carey Mulligan will be doing some theatre in London's West End soon. I wonder if she's be on stage when you are in London (you're going, right?). I think she'll be playing opposite Ralph Fiennes in 2010, although I"m not sure when. It would be fun to see them BOTH live. OMGGGgggg......right?

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
I am going to try & consolidate the reply here so as not to further spam Kristin's inbox!

Kate was up against some serious actresses this past year. Not that she is not a serious actress or anything, but geeeee -- I think I enjoyed The Reader a little more than you did though, but some of the other actresses looked like they did a better job. I mean, Meryl! She has too many awards, but Meryl!

I remember you saying that about Emma, and I read an article recently about how Carey is supposed to be the new "it" girl in Hollywood. I need to see the darn film first before I agree! =( Oh, and I am going to England, but not to London. I have not been to London in well over half a decade, but I agree, it would be pretty fun to see both of them live =) Particularly Carey since we are discussing her!

Glad to hear you lost interest in The Happening, and wow!! Who makes a comment like that to his fans?! That is class-less & tacky. You never spoke about Happy-Go-Lucky though. Looking it up............... is it the UK film from 2008? I am reading the synopsis, and it sounds adorable =) Does it border on annoying though? Julie & Julia sadly annoyed the crap out of me! =(

I ended up seeing the NC-17 version of Lust, Caution on accident, and it was just so good for me. What a thing to do though -- denounce the film after you talk it up for someone else. Ha ha! Get on the ball, Lauren =) & yes, I remember Lauren lol Ang just caught the zeitgeist of war-torn Shanghai so well for me. I was hooked on the visuals. He always does that to me =)

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Oh yeah, Meryl should have gotten it. Even tho she's not even as good as Kate Hepburn or Bette Davis. But has surpassed them in nominations. It's because Meryl is pretty much the only great and consistent actress today as opposed to the forties when there was plenty of talent. Ouch! Sorry to the working actors today. Maybe it's just that there aren't that many great roles to go around...yeah, let's blame it on the writers.

I MAY have recommended Secrets & Lies to you then? Yes, I did. But I probably didn't mention Happy-Go-Lucky, which was made by the same director. Basically, I saw Happy-Go-Lucky and I was hooked. It very well COULD have been annoying and guess what, some people were. And actually the main character's laugh ...it almost sounded like she was having an asthma attack at the end of her laugh, and that nearly annoyed me.  However, it is a life changing film. To die for. See it!! This one is available too.

Carey is great. Have you seen the Lindsay Lohan photos where she's dressed up as Marilyn Monroe? It's TERRIBLE! Carey has this Audrey Hepburn look in the film which easily could have backfired and been unoriginal. However, she pulls it off well, while still being herself. She definitely has the chance to become a big star.

As for war-torn Shanghai, wow, I just wasn't interested in that. I love spy films, but I just didn't care about it. Joan Chen is apparently a writer/director in her own right. However, as an actress she isn't too pretty to me (although the costumes weren't bad). And she's also not a very talented actress. It's ok if you disagree with me. I just wasn't feeling the love.

Okay, so have you heard Quentin Mosimann? I was listening to this song today. It's good. Maybe not his best, but still kinda catchy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD0V_VaHKQQ

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
LOL You are a writer yourself, I would not say that so nonchalantly! Plus, when the writers go on strike, it hurts so badly =( I think we should keep the writers happy =)

You twisted my arm =) Happy-Go-Lucky is now in my queue. I will just brace myself for some aggravating moments & hope for the best! Oh yes, Secrets & Lies sounded too good, so that was in my queue weeks ago. I have about forty films in front of it though.

Let me guess: the Paris scenes strike a resemblance with Audrey? I did not see these LiLo photos, but I have a confession to make: I secretly like LiLo =( So I might not be as offended as you were. ha!

Aha! You probably pinpointed another reason why I blindly loved Lust, Caution -- I just love a good ol' espionage flick, and since Ang made it look beautiful.. =)

"Toc Toc", eh? Alizee has a song called "Toc De Mac", and I always wondered what the words meant =) I think I need to listen to an album recording of this song though rather than a television edit.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Yes, I know. I have been depressed about my writing lately. That's probably where that came from. But yeah, I agree. Keep the writers happy! Get better actors! Yay.

Basically, I had the lowest expectations for Happy-Go-Lucky ever. I thought I would be annoyed by it too. I had turned off two of the director's movies previously. But now as of late October, I have seen all the director's films (it took me four months). LOL at film queues. I am thinking of joining Netflix again, but I'm afraid of adding so many films to my queue.

I think they did the Audrey-like hair before Paris. But yeah, she's charming all the way through the movie. You know, I really liked Lindsay, but not anymore. I guess I have completely given up on her. If I ever want to see a bad movie I know to rent I Know Who Killed Me. But I think it's been two years and I haven't had the desire yet. Strangely enough, I want to concentrate on seeing GOOD films.

Okay, I'm now checking out "Toc De Mac". I have liked her song "Veni Vedi Vici" recently. Yeah they play "Toc Toc" on NRJ.fr. Even though it's a TV recording, it almost sounds exactly like the recording, strangely enough. Believe me, I wouldn't have given you the link if I didn't think it was good enough.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Writers are the secret ingredient behind the success of Mad Men on AMC (television series). In fact, I have read before that January Jones, the lead female actress, did not really have much acting experience prior to the series, but (pardon the French) a helluva powerful plot seriously makes up for it. I wish you watched! I am going to Time Warner Cable tomorrow to upgrade my services to HBO channels so that I can watch The Wire & True Blood. I keep hearing great things about these series, and Ivy League universities such as Dartmouth & Harvard offer courses entirely based on The Wire. It is just that good!

Sorry to digress like that.

When did you quit Netflix again?! You were just on my friends list on there! LOL

yeah, I do not blame you for wanting to see good films Lindsay used to make some great little films. [sighs abound]

Toc De Mac is great, and her other song "Parler Tout Bas" (Speak Softly) is great too! The first paroles of the song sound otherworldly:

Les jours de pluie,
Mes jouets sont vivants.
Les grands ont des griffes
Comme des bouts de ciment.

Rainy days,
My toys are alive.
The big ones have claws
Like bits of cement.

I can see how "Toc Toc" would be pretty popular over there =)

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
I'm not sure what could make up for JJones' poor acting. ().

Yeah, I was only on Netflix for those two weeks. Yeah I'm  a little bit impatient with them. I might try about tho.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
I heard Ang is going to direct the movie version of one of my favorite books, The Life of Pi.  I'm a pushover. When I went to the library today, I saw The Life of Pi on the counter and it almost made me cry remembering the book. It's kind of the most bittersweet book ever.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
This sounds truly exciting for you =) I have no idea what The Life Of Pi is about, so I am going to research!

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Yeah, I don't want to spoil anything for you.

Two directors including M. Night Shymalan and Jean-Pierre Jeunet have already dropped out of the project. It would be a tough movie to do right. Since I loved the book I may not be too easily satisfied with just any adaptation either. Here's hoping that Ang Lee 1) sticks with the project and 2) makes a great film!!!

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
I lost faith in poor Shyamalan, but this Last Airbender film that he is directing looks a little promising. I just find that he gets to be a little full of himself sometimes =(

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
OH M Night has TOTALLY lost it. I nearly saw his last film, The Happening, just because it seemed like it was the only thing to watch. But the DVD was checked out (fortunately for me). It seems like one of those movies you put on only late at night if you've had plenty of wine.

He is TOTALLY condescending toward his audience, in fact he has said that he thinks they are stupid and he is much smarter. With an attitude like that, screw him!!

BTW instead of The Happening, I saw Happy-Go-Lucky. Have I talked to you about that film? It's THE BESTTTTT.

BTW-sorry Kristin for spamming your comments.

oh no! =( I never saw Hulk, but Lust, Caution & Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon & Brokeback Mountain & Sense & Sensibility & Eat, Drink, Man, Woman -- oh, that man is just magical lol

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Have you seen The Ice Storm? As for me, I still have to see Eat, Drink, Man, Woman.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Is The Ice Storm another Lee film? I have to look this up too =)

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
Yes, it is. I didn't like it when I saw it. But neither was I crazy about Lust, Caution for many reasons. My friend talked me into seeing it, and I sort of hated it. Then when the screening with the writer came to L.A., I unfortunately did not have the willpower to see it again, so I wish I had waited. And the friend who once raved about the film denounced it - in fact the day after I saw it. sigh.....

Oh, ha, the friend is Lauren, BTW. I forgot you sort of know who she is.

Re: Mindsay Blog Reunion Tour: Tuesday
i think crouching tiger, hidden dragon was good back when i saw it, but that's all i can speak for.
