How do you know we haven't already watched those or similar ones or debated w/ friends and family offline or even online when you weren't around?
Does being Portuguese mean you are omniscient too?
It's great you put up the links but you can't berate people for not having time on a weekend (traditionally very slow blogging time) in the early summer (graduations, dances, weddings, vacations) to get into a debate about terrorism. Especially when it is a hot topic that news channels fall back on whenever they are lacking anything else. People have to live their lives while they still can.
Educate the world but honey attracts more flies than vinegar.
Good point. You're right. Note taken. "Being Portuguese" means that I shouldn't even be worried about these things. So I have stopped. Right about, now.
Much of the art in this exhibit, which I volunteered for ('06) focused on 9/11, the then president, and what we are told and how we choose whether or not to believe what we are told, at face value. It was very eye-opening.
I wasn't picking on you and I hope we are still blog-friends.
I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your words. The truth is that I don't really know what the majority of the Americans think.
I took a look at the link you provided. I hope that more events like that may have happened. But still, after all that and other works, how did it change the country? In my mind this is material for a country-wide manifestation demanding explanation for the missing evidences..
I don't know. Like I said, I've stopped worrying about it. I've got a country too - with plenty of corruption to match.. and I hope we can keep being blog-friends too

Well, my opinion is, there are so many jackals gathered we will never see the truth. If we get lucky enough, maybe someone will poke enough holes in their stories that we will figure it out. For every scientist that says the towers were imploded, the government has 3 that say they weren't. I don't have buildings like that to experiment on ... I have to believe someone...
I don't know how you feel about people writing crappy poetry at the drop of a hat but our conversation last night happened to coincide with a recent politically related purchase so I wrote a little poem about it. It has a few cultural references that you may or may not get (you seem to watch a good bit of American tv and that is pretty much where I get my American Culture). Here's your poem:
You think I'm in denial
but I'm just afraid
to look it in the face,
stare into the eyes
of something I believe
I'll never control.
Livin' in my safe,
soft Idaho, I just won't
let it go.
It feels like a cliche
(I got the SJP dreams) .
This is how I wanna roll.
So you can try to tell me
but I just don't want
to see...
but I'm just afraid
to look it in the face,
stare into the eyes
of something I believe
I'll never control.
Livin' in my safe,
soft Idaho, I just won't
let it go.
It feels like a cliche
(I got the SJP dreams) .
This is how I wanna roll.
So you can try to tell me
but I just don't want
to see...
I see. So what you're trying to tell me is that there's nothing you can do about it right? If so, that creeps me a bit: it sounds like you got used to live in regime where justice isn't for everyone.
I tried to understand your poem and I think I got the general idea, but I failed at relating it to the "recent politically related purchase". I probably lost some of the recent news. So, if you have the patience, please explain.

The purchase already had me thinking about some of the things the original post is about so I had the double effect of you and that.
It's not that I believe there is nothing I can do, I believe that there is very little. I was born in Washington D.C. because my dad was actually working in politics at the time (a very long time ago now). No matter who is in office, everything we see is obscured. We never get the full truth. It's like a baby never getting enough nourishment. It can't be healthy.
And conspiracy theories are just theories. Those buildings really could have collapsed b/c the planes hit them. There had to be a reason the planes were flown into the buldings like that. As in the planners (who they were is still open for debate) knew there was a pretty good chance that they would fall.
As for the poem, it isn't just about me. It is about many of us around where I live. We have become very accustomed to going into offices, working a bit, going over to the water cooler, telling some jokes, making fun of people, going to lunch at a restaurant, coming back, working a little more, going home, eating dinner, shopping on the internet, dating, going to sleep and starting over again. Other than the working part, that is a really comfortable arrangement. People don't want to be knocked out of it. Now that the economy has been messed up for a year or so people are clawing to get back to their old lifestyle (they do have families to support, so you can't blame them). There has been so much political upheaval since the late 1990's that many look at it as something far away, which they can't control and is more like entertainment at this point.
Let's make up a person, works at the university, near my house. It is very intense over there right now, nobody likes the president of the school, Michael Adams, and just like the devil wouldn't, he doesn't care. He does all kinds of terrible things. It is already a toxic enviroment Also, one of the faculty flipped-out and went on a shooting rampage about 3 weeks ago and killed 3 people all involved in university life. Because of the economy and Adams there is all kinds of things going on so the school can cut costs. So this imaginary person is working her butt off not to lose her job in a very uncomfortable, unstable environment. Let's say she has a boyfriend, wants to get married, and then discovers she is pregnant. What is going to do now? Get all involved in politics and conspiracy theories? No. She is going to try everything possible to get her personal life in order and make a family while keeping her job. That is just how most human beings are. Maybe not everyone working at UGA is pregnant but their personal lives carry that much weight all the time (that is almost a pun).
This is so long. I bet you wish I had just left it at the poem. The point is, you can't make these people (or the majority of them) give up cushy lives that they either have now or are trying to get back to, in order to spend time chasing down what is so muddled and hidden that it would be almost impossible to sort out in the first place. It may be "creepy" but that is how humans are, as far as I have seen. I could be wrong but I have very little evidence to the contrary.
Interesting analogy, that of the malnourished baby
I appreciate the time you took to explain all that. I didn't realize that the current state of affairs in your country was that bad.. I understand now.

I think you have gotten me back on my toes. Afterall, I'm not in the same position as the people I was mentioning.
whitedevil just posted this and I didn't know if you would see it (but I voted for it):
Signs of the times
I think it's troubling that despite our crushing recession, never-ending war and incompetent politics, the most important and popular music to be produced is pretty much about having sloppy, drunk sex with a thug in a club.
I don't think we get it, yet.
I don't think we get it, yet.
I will. But blogging 's got a point. I can't just start making assumptions about a country and a culture in which I do not live in.
Thanks for the support!

Aw come on Jill, be nice to her.
What does Portuguese have to do with it?
Plenty!
Just as being Japanese, or French, or German, etc. - and NOT believeng the crock MOUNTAIN of bullshit our government has spread with the "official" story blaming 19 "terrorists" armed with box cutters, for 9-11.
The sheeple of America gladly and blindly swallow the BS... if they didn't they might be forced to actually think for themselves for once in their miserable lives. It's all about the propaganda and brainwashing of the American public... America = GOOD, Terrorists = BAD, USA = GOOD, Iraq = BAD, God = loves you, Allah = HATES YOU... on and on and on...

I think it's pretty safe to say that most of the 'American' users here have had nearly 8 years to discuss and debate 9/11 as well as terrorism in general, and I know that at least for myself, it's just a worn-out topic of discussion.
Yes, I have visited 911truth.org, long before I saw it posted here. And yes, I have watched several documentaries investigating and breaking through the myths of 9/11. And it was a long time ago that I came to the conclusion that the American media and government officials led us astray, and did not tell us the truth.
I have discussed these ideas both with my boyfriend, who is from Germany, and with my friend Vlad, who is from Russia. And I was even born in 1990, so does this make me some kind of rarity?
I'm really appreciative that non-Americans are searching for the truth about this as well because it's not just an American issue. This is an issue of government lies and abuse, and it all needs to be exposed.
Like I said, I think most people here are just done with discussing this topic, for one because we've done it for years, and secondly because it tends to bring back negative and sad feelings, and I believe this is why you didn't get the response you may have hoped for.
-Cheers

Thank you for taking the time to explain all that.
If I may ask you, what do you think: does the US government (specially the Bush administration) still owes the world a better explanation of what really happened?
