I am Legend is a zombie movie trying to make itself a science-fiction movie. Although it's popular, it's not a thinking person's film. I agree with you.

The alternate ending was worse. Made less sense than the one in theatres.

I loved the movie - mainly because very few actors can carry out an entire movie on their own (a la Tom Hanks in Cast Away), and I thought Will Smith did an awesome job. The original movie, Omega Man was a better version of the book... but this was more in par with all the latest movies like 28 Days Later and the like.

 

The film crew/actors/directors paid a visit to the CDC to see how their labs are set up and how research is conducted, so a lot of what you see in the movie is how it actually works for the most part in real life. Even his social dysfunction was based on real life.

 

I thought it was a good movie.

I read a review about Will Smith's performance that described it perfectly for me: "hard to see him in a movie where it is possible to suspend the disbelief". I saw him as a survivalist, sure, but as a doctor..? This film was anti-climactic & terrible, I thought. Will Smith did not do it for me as far as independently carrying out a movie goes.

I never agree with critics. Most of the time, they're just talking out their ass

the alternate ending was will smith goes with the girl to the surviving camp and brings the cure.  he is able to show the crazy zombie leader that he saved his girlfriend and there isnt a grenade to end things.
