I enjoyed Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  It was inventive and visually stunning.  Johnny Depp is an amazing actor who had some great one-liners.  I thought it was interesting that Tim Burton centered on Willy Wonka and his life story.  However, I still prefer the original and Gene Wilder's Wonka.  It had more heart I think.

I also find it quite interesting that Tim Burton who was and may still be an outsider himself, likes to focus on lone characters, usually outsiders or outcasts, and their sad lot in life.  When you think about it, all his movies have been about some kind of outsider...Willy Wonka was the perfect vehicle for this continual theme.

Anyway, for those who haven't seen the movie yet, you'll especially enjoy the trippy ride that only Tim Burton's genius can produce.

Re: wonka
i thought dep was a better wonka.  Actually, i thought all the characters were better but the oompaloompas and their songs were pretty lame.

Re: wonka
depp was an interesting wonka, but he was just plain weird...however, wilder's wonka was more complex and delightfully eccentric.  it really centered on wonka...the kids didn't get as much focus.

i've been reading others' reviews and everyone seems to hate the oompa loompas...yeah i reckon the first movie's ones were better to watch and didn't distract from the movie.

Re: wonka
The two of them (Depp and Burton) working together are magic. Their new collaboration, Corpse Bride, is due out later this year.  Looks creepy but cool.

Re: wonka
I don't think that I'm going to watch it. Just the soundtrack on the ads is annoying. It seems to be relying too much on 'new' animation which'll make it over-animated. I thought I'd see it, until I saw the ads...

Re: wonka
i know the soundtrack you mean...that's when the puppets sing! it's a movie worth watching on the big screen.
