I've been booking local bands here as of late, so I know the excitement and the tribulations that you were referring to. And also the excitement of seeing one of your dreams come to fruition.
My husband's got an incredible voice and kick ass stage presence (as of late). So he was really excited to be able to sing with one of the local bands on stage. I was so proud of him, and in reading your post, I can see you felt just as he did when you were asked to play. I've seen what an incredible pick-me-up that can be for a person.
I have another friend who's actually been on MTV; his band was featured. He also plays in the house band for the Rangers, and has played many a concert hall all up and down New York and Jersey. But here's the catch: he can barely stomach their music. Because they are a cover band. So I asked him how that works: is it worth playing shitty pop songs just to be famous and get to play every single day for large crowds, or do you want to hang yourself because you feel you may be selling out just to get your name out there? He said it was a bit of both. His heroes are guys like SRV, guys who played with their hearts and souls. Not guys like John Mayer who have unspeakable talent, but play pop songs for teenagers in order to sell more records. So its been a constant source of frustration for him because he's got a fiance, he wants to settle down with her and have a house and a white picket fence. But he lives in the pricey section of NY, the only place he can live because of his work. So does he screw her to be true his art, or does he suck it up and do what needs to be done...and doing what needs to be done includes the one thing in life he wants to do. So he's always back and forth about this. He loves it and hates it, he loves and hates himself. It may sound like no big deal, but for people who put their hearts and souls into their art, its a very stressful dilemma.
I enjoyed this post. Be sure and let us know how things are progressing, i'd love to follow along with this.

Have you actually had the chance to practice with them yet? Any date for you to make your Amerikan Junk debut?
I haven't talked to them yet about practicing with them. I need to get as far as I can with some of their older stuff first. Then I have to learn their new stuff at a practice.
