This isn't meant to annoy you (sorry if it does). It's just a look into my musical loves and maybe you will discover something new...

Rock on! I dont know anyone else who even KNOWS who Celldweller is. Coolness.

In a way I kinda dig Nightwish, but theyre mostly too operatic, epic, and melodramatic for me. But I love the mixture of elements, and the elegance they possess.

Snap Your Fingers....., I listen to that song at least 3 times a week, espeically when I need to get off my ass and do stuff.

Re: Project Playlist
I've known Celldweller through all of his music projects.  Circle of Dust, Argyle Park and to a lesser extent, AP2.  It's been over a decade that I've been loving his stuff.  It's cool to know you dig his stuff as well!

boo04  is the one I have to thank for getting me into Nightwish.  Actually, I had briefly run across them back in 2000 / 2001 and loved them but lost track of them.  Now I'm more than happy to get them back in my music repertoire.  They have a new singer now that isn't so operatic.

That is certainly a kick ass song.  But you gotta hear Demon Hunter's version of SYFSYN.  It easily surpasses the original.

Thanks for checking this out!

Re: Project Playlist
I'm running off now to check out DH's version. Thanks for the tip!

What was the first heavy song you heard that made you bang your head and made you wanna rock? I was talking about this with my friend Otto, and I remember everything about my first experience. I was 15, and I heard More Human Than Human on someone's cd player. It stopped me cold in my tracks. What was funny was that i'd never even HEARD anything heavier than country and oldies! But the first few notes of MHTH, it changed my music life forever, and I never listened to country again. LOL

Re: Project Playlist
Hopefully you dig it. I think you will.

The first heavy song that made me wanna rock? You're not going to believe this. Really, you're not. At least, not until you actually listen to a bit of it. It was by Richard Marx. Listen to Streets of Pain. It features Tommy Lee on drums. Now you know that Richard Marx did indeed rock for at least a little while.

Re: Project Playlist
I totally dug it! It was thick and swallowed my ears, it was awesome. While I was on youtube, I found a version of the song by Dry Kill Logic, and man..that was some good tunage right there.

Since you prefaced it, I stifled my laughter until after reading the sentences after "Richard Marx". LOL I've definitely got to check that out because "rock" and Richard Marx's hair Richard Marx just dont add up. I cant wait to hear this.

Re: Project Playlist
I think Static X covered SYFSYN as well.  I remember hearing the cover on the radio a few years ago.  Other people I've talked to about it don't remember it all though.  People are clueless schmucks when it comes to music sometimes.

Laugh it up.  I know.  Richard Marx is so uncool.  But it was him, Beach Boys, Ray Charles and a strange crush on Samantha Foxx that got me hooked on music.  My tastes have certainly evolved.  But don't deny your roots.  On a side note, I really don't like Zombie.  His stuff sounds way too similar.

Re: Project Playlist
Static X is one of my favorite bands, and even I didnt know about that. But i'm definitely going to try and find it. I have almost all their stuff, but I dont remember ever hearing that cover. Hmmph.

Youve GOT to love the Beach Boys, thats just law. And Ray Charles goes without saying. I dont listen to any butt rock, male or female artists. I dunno how much older you are than me, but I totally missed out on the butt rock phase. Once I realized there was grunge and pop, I was hooked on that stuff, but never "went back" and listened to any hair band stuff.

Re: Project Playlist
I googled Static X and SYFSYN but the search came back negatory.  I'm thinking that Dry Kill Logic was probably the band I heard on the radio a couple years ago.  Either way, it was pretty dang good.

By the way, did you ever look into that Denison Marrs cover of Send Me an Angel on iTunes?  I remember you telling me that it was one of your favorite songs to be covered.

Of course I loved the Beach Boys.  None of that Beatles bullshit.  I'm a loyal nationalist like that.  Besides, the Beach Boys had I Get Around used in the awesome Disney film Flight of the Navigator.  Anyone who doens't love Ray Charles can "hit the road, Jack".  Gimme the "butt rock" over the grunge phase.  There are certain exceptions but I enjoy a good solo from someone who can actually play their instrument.

Re: Project Playlist
Hell yeah, DKL's version was rad.

I haven't found the Denison Marrs cover, no. (It might help if I had iTunes, though. LOL) Its definitely my all-time favorite song, and yes, I even like horrid covers of it! I'm gonna look again on other sites though because new stuff is added all the time.

I liked the Beach Boys from the get-go. Course, I had to find out all about music on my own. My parents never liked music, television, or movies, so all of the stuff I know about those three things came from sneaking around trying to hear and see them. But New Kids on the Block were on the approved list. They were the first act I ever saw live. The only other entertainer i've seen so far is Weird Al. I loved him!  I wish I could have seen Ray Charles and the Beach Boys in their heyday. I oftentimes wish I lived way back then, there was something so pure about the music scene back then.

As much as I appreciate talent, i'm all about the catchy. I even listen to some polka, I shit you not. I'll listen to anything actually if it appeals to my ears, even if it a pig sitting down randomly on a keyboard and it happens to sound good.

BAHAHAHA! Fuck that! I want my rockstars dead!

That guy ruled ass. I think i'm his illegitimate child. I get in "trouble" a lot, especially around MindSay, because I have an attitude similar to his. Cept...he's funny when he says it. His bit on smoking will never cease to make me grin like an idiot.

And why is it that all the best of us die young, but we have to suffer Dr Phil's and Fred Phelps'?

Re: Project Playlist
I am totally honored that Nightwish made it on  your playlist here.  I started listening to Stavesacre again just a few days ago, and oddly enough when we got off the phone last time we talked I listened to Neon Horse.  I was digging The Dark Romantics a few days ago and it dawned on me that the lead singer is the same guy from Denison Marrs.  Guess I'm a bit slow on the uptake there.

I'm a bit surprised that you didn't put Rivers Underneath as the Stavesacre song.  I just saw STG!!  How awesome!  No Love Association though.  I think I'll have to make one of these cool playlists of my own.

Re: Project Playlist
Nightwish was a given.  I thought about using Planet Hell but figured people would be more open to a familiar tune.  I've been listening to Aerosmith more than anything lately.  I'm gaining a greater appreciation for their great rock.  From Denison Marrs to Dark Romantics... duh.  (Wasn't it Metric that was the same singer as Stars? I can't remember for sure...)  Also, the lead guitarist for DR played drums on DM's final album.

Rivers Underneath wasn't an option.  Nor was Gold and Silver or Keep Waiting.  I'd have certainly put them in there.  But I still absolutely love ZZYZX Scarecrow.  The last 50 seconds are a huge payoff.  Yeah, make up your own playlist.  It doesn't take much time at all.

Re: Project Playlist
Haha...Rivers Underneath just came on!  I think Nightwish's version of Phantom of the Opera is one of the best I've ever heard.  I went through a phase where I really didn't like Aerosmith, but I can dig em now.  Yup, you are correct the singer from Stars is the same singer in Metric.  I should listen to them after I'm done with Speakeasy.  I know, I can't believe that I didn't realize that before!

I will.  I'm making some awesome progress on my midterm.  I hope I can be done with it at a decent time so I can get a good night's sleep tonight.  I need to read a book and write the summary for it tomorrow night and get stuff cleaned up a bit around here.  If the midterm is turned in early enough I'll do it tonight otherwise it'll have to wait for tomorrow.
