I don't usually go off on a tangent about other people's blogs but it really angers me that people are so judgmental of what others write.  If you don't like it then just don't read it.  I personally have read some pretty terrible things on other peoples pages but if I don't like it or if I am offended in any way I move on.  Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion.  For me, Mindsay is a place I go to vent my frustrations, share my day with extended family and friends, post pictures of my little one and his cousins.  But it is not somewhere I go to pass judgment on other peoples blogs.  I guess some can argue that Freedom of Speech goes both ways however who can really determine who is right or who is wrong.  We are all individuals with our own beliefs and our own reasoning and that is what makes us unique, that is what makes us in INDIVIDUALS.  I can't help but wonder if people who pass so much judgment expect all of us to fit into the same tiny single minded box?  I don't know the answer to that question.  I do know that is a box I don't ever want to crawl into.

Thanks  I just think it sucks when people read something someone wrote and take it so personally and then go off and put them down, ya know?

"I guess some can argue that Freedom of Speech goes both ways"

Yeah, you really could make that argument, and yet I'm noticing the argument that you and others seem to be making more often is, how dare they suggest that someone shouldn't be allowed to write what they want, why, they shouldn't be allowed to write what they want.

In fact, the suggestion that you "could make the argument that freedom of speech goes both ways" is imbecilic.  If it didn't go both ways it wouldn't BE freedom of speech.  There is either freedom of speech, or censorship, there's no such thing as partial freedom of speech, which is what you seem to want.

Seems to me that most of you want censorship but you want to control what is censored.  You want the right to say this, but you don't want anyone else to have the right to say anything they want about this blog, or about you.  Does that about sum it up?

Re: Last time I checked there was a little thing called Freedom of Speech
I think everyone has the right to say or write whatever they want which is pretty much exactly what I said.  I just think it is wrong to go attacking someone over what they have written.  I am just a Mom who comes on here and writes about my Kid and keeps in touch with family and maybe rants about my day.  Yes I read other peoples blogs but if I don't like what they say I certainly wouldn't go attacking them with a blog of my own. Which is not what I did.  But they have every right to write whatever they want.  I have NOT asked anyone to censor themselves.  I was just stating my opinion which I am absolutely entitled to. Just as you are.   In any case honestly if you don't like what I have to say then please don't read it.

Re: Last time I checked there was a little thing called Freedom of Speech
My point is that you're protecting people's right to speak, but not the right of those to reply.  While it's true that you can choose to leave rather than something negative, it's also true the person writing the blog can either screen replies or choose who can even read the blog.

There is absolutely no difference between the people you are denouncing and yourself.  You don't get to choose HOW people can reply, just as someone has a right to blog about whatever they want, everyone else has a right to say whatever they want in reply, regardless of how derogatory.

Really, it was the comment about the argument for freedom of speech going both ways that offended me.  It is only the negative speech, the racism, the horrible comments which need to be protected the most, because they are the first things to be censored when that attitude you are espousing spreads.  Any censorship sets precedents which make further censorship easier.

I agree with you on much of what you say.  But we have a difference of opinions and that is o.k.   In all honesty I never intended to offend anyone.

That's fair, I myself never attempt not to offend anyone.

Re: Last time I checked there was a little thing called Freedom of Speech
No offense taken, you have every right to respond and that is really why I wrote the blog.  To get peoples responses or feelings on the subject. Not to have everyone agree with me.  I can see after re-reading how some people may have taken what I wrote as me saying "don't have an opinion! don't you dare send any negativity my way!"  But I guess I have always tried to live my life by what my Grandfather always taught me "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."  Tried being the operative word. But in all honesty I can remember as a kid how much that notion pissed me off!  I guess after all is said and done I just have to live and let live but in saying that I am not going to apologize for what I wrote because in that moment it is how I felt.

That's completely fair.  I was never asking you to take it back, I was just arguing a point.

Thank god most people don't ascribe to the philosophy that we should only say nice things.  If the world actually worked that way it would be a perpetual conversation about the weather to avoid offending anyone and I would have to put a gun in my mouth.
