Good Morning ALL! Hope the sun's shining where you are, and if not, that you're well out of harm's way.
It's cold here in the garden today - frigid cold - the kind that even makes photography difficult. With cold, numb, clumsy fingers and batteries that won't hold a charge in a deep freeze I haven't had a lot of luck but I did get a few shots I'll share a little later today once I've re-viewed them a bit closer! The wind is howling, but we're not getting a lot of snow right where I'm located. Not far away though there are blizzards and blinding snow squalls and plenty of roads are closed. People who like to ski will be pleased to some extent BUT it's really too cold for any but die-hard skiers to go out in this for long. This cold bites the skin and dries it out quickly, a warm cuppa something and a good book or great posts at MindSay are more appealing this morning!
This morning as John headed out it was -17 C, and closer to -30 C with the wind chill. It's destined to stay like this for most of thh week. Not all that unusual for this part of the continent and still far more bearable than other parts of the country, it's still darn cold! It was too cold to take Keisha, the dog, out for a good walk early today. Yesterday, at early morning, she even backed away from the door when I opened it to let her out. I've never seen her do that on a snowy day, so it was very clear, it was cold - the weather hasn't been the stuff that's kind to human or beast!
In the meantime, while waiting for Keisha to mount her courage to venture out of doors I decided to check the on-line news and see if there were any interesting stories to clip for
my "clipmarks" info gathering site, try the link if you're interested in seeing what I've clipped recently or if you're curious about what clipmarks is. I found a few interesting items and so did other people, it's fun to read what other people find interesting about the world around them and it is a global reference - not just an American view, though there's a large portion of users from the States. Clipmarks is a place to find "Bite sized highlights of the web" It's sort of like google's notebook, or Yahoo's My Web, or any other note gathering site but laid out very nicely and with all sorts of interesting added features I don't see at the other ones. It's very intuitive and a quick to learn bit of software that doesn't bog down my system the way Yahoo's My Web and Google's Notebook do! Check it out! Even more important; clips you want to share with others can be e-mailed directly through your imported address book OR you can send a friend a "permalink" (a website address) for the clip you want to share with someone - yours' or someone else's clip - too kewl!
So, If you're looking for a place to check out what people are keeping track of in the news, from the link to my page above, you can browse through the "
New Clips" or "
Front Page Clips" you'll find the links on the upper left portion of the screen. I know a lot of you come across interesting little tidbits on the net yourselves - why not sign up and start collecting those little snippets of info, for yourself, (you can keep you lists private if you want) and, if you wish, you can share your clips with others. There's a cute and simple demo to show you how it works and it won't steal a lot of memory though it can sometimes be a bit sluggish when it's real busy! Explore and see what you think!
There's something similar to Clipmarks features, at a much more in-depth site; called
Care2 , the site is dedicated to connecting people globally, "
For people who Care 2 make a difference..." but their site is designed to operate best with Internet Explorer's browser - darn it all - I find some of care2's features don't work predictably using my Firefox browser from Mozilla. I'm learning to get around the little annoyances and limitations and usually stay with Firefox when I visit Care2 but when I want to play with graphics and photos, I'm better off running IE - ugh - even though I detest it!
The nerve of Microsoft waiting till years later to come up with a safer, better IE (the newest; level 7) but the catch is it won't support Windows 2000 - talk about planned obsolescence, it sucks,
really! I think that's why I detest Microsoft's software and company policies as much as I do! Bill Gates may be doing good things for the world in a philanthropic way but the methods used when his company issues his wares leaves way too much to be desired! (When I am finally FORCED to upgrade - which won't be that long from now - I'm going IMAC to be sure... though ideally I'd like a laptop with a tablet screen - I'll hope that'll be possible on a Mac by the time I'm ready to upgrade! time will tell the tale!) But then that's another story!
The sun looks like it's trying to cut through the clouds, there are patches of blue sky poking through and the light might put some sparkle in the icicles if I can get my batteries warmed up and pump up my gumption to get out and try a few more shots!
Til Later! Stay warm and stay safe all!
Cheryl ;)
