RAINBOW WARRIORS

From "The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls"
By Chris Morton and Ceri Louise Thomas

The Legend

‘The ancestors said that light-skinned people would come out of the eastern sea in great canoes powered by huge white wings, like giant birds. The people who got off these great boats would also be like birds, but they would have two different kinds of feet. One of their feet would be like that of a dove, the other like that of an eagle. The foot of the dove would represent a beautiful new religion of love and kindness, whilst the foot of the eagle would represent greed for material wealth, technological strength and war-making ability.

‘For many years the sharp foot of the eagle would dominate, for though the new people would talk much of the new religion, not all of the light-skinned people would live by it. Instead they would claw at the red nations with their eagle feet, killing, exploiting and then enslaving them.

‘After offering mixed resistance to this clawing, the Indians would lose their spirit and allow themselves to be herded into small weak enclaves. This would then be the way of the world for many years. But then there would come a time when Earth would become very sick. Because of the unrelenting greed of the new culture, the Earth would be filled with deadly liquids and metals, the air would be rendered foul with smoke and ash, and even the rains, which were intended to cleanse the Earth, would plummet in poison drops. Birds would fall from the sky, fish would turn belly up in the waters and whole forests would begin to die.

‘When these things began to happen, the Indian people would be all but helpless. But then a new light would come from the east, and the Indians would begin to find their strength, their pride, and their wisdom. The legend said they would also be joined by many of their light-skinned brothers and sisters, who would in fact be the reincarnate souls of the Indians who were killed or enslaved by the first light-skinned settlers. It was said that the dead souls of these first people would return in bodies of all different colours: red, white, yellow and black. Together and unified, like the colours of the rainbow, these people would teach all of the peoples of the world how to have love and reverence for Mother Earth, of whose very stuff we human beings are also made.

‘Under the symbol of the rainbow, all of the races and all of the religions of the world would band together to spread the great wisdom of living in harmony with each other and with all creations of the Earth. Those who taught this way would come to be known as "the warriors of the rainbow". Although they would be warriors, they would carry with them the spirits of the ancestors, they would carry the light of knowledge in their heads and love in their hearts, and they would do no harm to any other living thing. The legend said that after a great struggle, using only the force of peace, these warriors of the rainbow would finally bring an end to the destruction and desecration of Mother Earth and that peace and plenty would then reign through a long, joyous and peaceful golden age here on Mother Earth.’

Another passage…..

‘…"Let the dawn come, let all the people and all the creatures have peace, let all things live happily, " for the love must not only be between humans, but between all living things. They said "We are the children of the sun, we are the children of time and we are the travelers in space. May all the songs awaken, may all the dancers awaken. May all the people and all things live in peace. For you are the valley, you are the mountains, you are the trees, you are the very air you breathe".

‘And so, my brothers and sisters, I am not here to give you gold. I am not here to give you treasure. I am here to give you these words that are not mine. These are the words of our grandmothers and grandfathers, the travelers in time, our ancestors from the stars: "We are all one." We eat white food, yellow food, dark food because these are all the colours of our mothers and fathers in the heavens. We are all one like the colours of the rainbow. We are all fed by the air, fed by the rain, fed by Grandfather Sun, Man, the animals, the birds, and the trees, we are all one.

‘Now is the time of the return of the grandmothers and grandfathers. Now is the time of the return of the elders. Now is the time of the return of the wise ones. And the wise ones are all of you. Now is the time to go out into the world and spread the light. The sacred flame has been kept for this purpose and now the time approaches when you will be required to love all things, to love a world that has gone crazy, to rebalance the heavens and the Earth. For the Time of Warning has come to pass and the Warriors of the Rainbow are now beginning to be born. …May all arise. May all arise. Not one or two groups will be left behind."

While this image is more associated with the Anasazi, I believe they are the ancestors of the Hopi and other southwest indian groups.

A friend posted this elsewhere on the net in a discussion thread and it just feels right, especially this time of year to share this story with you all! Several trips I've taken to the Colorado and Arizona area got me very interested in ancient folklore and what little we really know about the ancestors of these lands : The Anasazi.

I've always liked that story.  Its from that story that Greenpeace got the name for its ship.

I didn't put that together - thanks! This old hopi legend is one of my favourites too,  story telling traditions in so many cultures are fascinating and often very illuminating!

my other most favorite is the story of the Kokopeli, but of Anasazi origin; I love the playful lustiness of the dancing, flute playing kokopelli "angel" coming to spread fertility and gaiety and celebration among the villages and the villagers. An indian Johnny Appleseed of sorts... too cool!

I'll admit I do - maybe after Christmas... we'll see how the days go... I hope to hit 100 postings before we've finished out the year... Just as a little milestone, I joined here in March so I anticipate way more than 100 for 2006!
