I don't usually get mom anything.  Our relationship was a bit rocky there for awhile, but I also call or something. She moved to Reno a few years ago, and she just doesn't seem interested in contacting us. So I call and email, and rarely if ever get a response.  So with what little bit of money we have I just don't get her anything.  She has my brother and sister in law who moved down there too, they don't have any kids (Sadly) but have always had to money to get nice gifts for my mom and dad.  It's hard, I feel bad sometimes, but theres more to relationships then material gifts. 

I would agree completely ..... much more to relationships than material things.  And with mom being 85 it is really hard to find something she wants or needs or anything else.  But my dad used to spoil her and being the only child sometimes I feel like I need to just carry that on.  It probably would not bother her one bit to just stay home ..... and spend yet another day with us .... lol .... but I would like to make it a bit nice for her if possible.

My husbands sister has money ..... a lot of it ..... and she has a little better relationship with the mom than Dave does ..... so she will do something nice for her I'm sure.  But I literally have to put a hot poker under Dave to get him to call her.

With my mom, she's in a small place, so doesn't have much room for anything, she is a manager at the buffet in the Silver legacy so she already has more clothes then she ever had before.  And the thing she loves to do outside of work is play blackjack, and drink her wine before bed.  So it doesn't leave alot of options for gifts.  One thing I do want to do though, sometime when they are back up here, is take them on the sternwheeler. Mom always wanted to do that up in Portland, now we have one in Salem, and Hubby and I got to go,  she would really love it.   But it's pretty spendy, (my sister had gotten it for us for a gift,) But it's something I hope to do before they are too old to travel anymore.  Mom is going on 69 and my dad is going on 83. 

That would be awesome and I hope it can work out that you can do that with them!

Definitely do it before they are too old .... My dad passed away 13 years ago in July ..... I had always made plans in my mind to take a cruise with them ..... it didn't get to happen.  Mom would not go now ..... she has said so.  And that is ok .... I can't afford it now anyways.  lol

so when this day rolls around im usually broke  lol..so  i usually take pictures  and burn them to a disk to show mom pictures  she likes  especially her grandkids  lol.. and then i go in peoples yards and steal flowers and present her with a nice boquet of flowers  lol.. i know im soooo  bad...

LMAO ..... Oh, Tawni ..... too funny ..... but you have given me an idea for some devious fun ....


What would the neighbors think?  lol

LOL ..... my poor mother sees us every day ..... 24/7 ..... I'm sure she would rather be anywhere but with us ..... lol ..... a great gift would of been a day away from us for sure.

OH no! ha! well then perhaps you can rent her some movies and you and Dave can go out for the day and leave her in a few hours of peaceful solitude with some good food and flicks! though i can't imagine the two of you causing that much grief that she'd really want to run away for a day! lol

Nah ..... we're not that bad ..... lol ..... although I'm sure she has her days ..... cause I know we have ours ..... its hell coming home as an adult ..... I don't recommend it ..... lol
