Yesterday on the way home from town ..... microwave shopping and spur of moment haircut, I stopped at the vet office to pick up heartworm pills for the dogs.

Mercedes, the step-daughter of Art, the vet, is and has been a staple in his office for as long as I've taken my animals there and since she got out of the service.  She is a very organized tough but funny office girl who keeps her step-dad in line and knows about as much about animals as he does.  She knows that I'm not working right now and asked if I would be interested in possibly working there.  One of there helpers will be ..... someday ..... just not sure when and if they will get notice ..... leaving.  Her job is walking the dogs and doing their meds.  Washing blankets.  Helping Art when needed.  Mowing the lawn and helping to take care of the horses and other large animals that may be there.  It's about 4 miles from home.  Even totally bike ride-able.  Full time.  A whopping $9.00 an hour to start.  But for here well, lets say at the group home I was making $8.00 ..... and I was in charge of human lives.  So its a step up financially.  lmao

Ok .... so, my only issue is this .... I cry at the sight of a dead deer, squirrel, raccoon or whatever along side the road.  Can I be tough enough to endure animals in pain and dying?  Wow, I don't know.  Would I toughen up after awhile?  I would love to work there ..... Mercedes and I have always gotten along great.  And yes, we have spent some time talking with each other.  For awhile there I was her favorite customer ..... at least a once a week visit.

Something I need to really think about.  But I told her to please call me first.  And she said she would.

Ok .... off to take a shower ..... and yeah, I did wake up looking like Conan O'Brien. The new haircut.  Scary.

Peace.  J.

lol.. Conan, huh?  too funny!

I think you would be great helping animals out for the vet.. that sounds like a great job for you!  I wouldn't be able to do it.. can't stand the smell of poop.. lol.  The soft spot for animals in your heart might be a little sore the first couple of times an animal doesn't make it, but you just have to keep thinking of all the animals you helped save.  That's the only way I can do nursing.. getting past the guilt of not being able to do anything sometimes.

Swear .... Conan ...... about screamed thought I'd been possessed ...... lmao

Thanks for that support ...... the smell of poop doesn't bother me as much as the sounds of an animal in pain.  That tears at me huge.  But your right ..... you just have to separate the good from the bad and stay focused on the good.  I could never work with humans ..... or babies ..... as you do, I give you a ton of credit ..... nurses are an amazing lot.

aww, that'd be cool!  i think you could probably just mention it to them... that you're very emotional when it comes to sick or injured animals, but you'd LOVE to work with them (them being the people AND the animals).  and maybe if it's not working out in 3 or 4 weeks, and you're too emotional over it, they'll understand, ya know?

i have some questions about camping:
  • can you explain this "toilet" thing to me again?
  • what is the sleeping temperature like?  you said it gets cool, right?
  • will i be dying during the day without shorts?  i don't own shorts.
  • would you laugh at me a lot if i brought a hand-held battery-operated fan with me?  heheh
  • should i bring cards and a cribbage board?

Re: I Woke Up Looking Like Conan O'Brien!
Yeah, I think so too and was just thrilled that she even thought of me.  Now that is what I was used to in Bear Valley ..... people knowing me, knowing I'm a hard worker and asking me if I would like to work for them.  Not having to beg plead and get shit on over and over for a job.  I like Mercedes a lot.  Totally respect her.  And I already know she can be one tough cookie.  But then sweet as punch once things settle down.  And I like your idea of letting them know ahead of time about the emotions.  They may even have suggestions ....

Ok, camping questions answered:

1.  The toilet situation ..... it is a portable toilet / chemical.   That flushes (for lack of a better word) ok, maybe dumps ..... into a holding tank that we take and dump when needed.  It is no big deal ..... the chemicals break down everything to a liquid form and we never see or come in contact with the stuff.  And we will make sure it is in a private setting.  We even use the proper tp to break down with everything as well.

2.  It can get downright cold at night on the river ...... once the sun goes down its cool.  Now, it will more than likely be totally comfortable for you .....

3.  I don't think you will die without shorts .....  Dave is in his jeans all the time.   Well, maybe out of them when he comes home for the day ..... and in shorts if he feels like it, but otherwise mostly in pants.

4.  I will not laugh if you bring your fan.  We have a little fan that we run off the generator if we want and need to ..... actually now it can run off the solar panel ...... ****boogies****  If you have some kind of chair for outside ..... beach or whatever bring them.  There are homemade log benches but nothing with backs except for ours.  But nice soft bench seats w/ backs in the trailer.  And it can stay cool in there too.  If your not cooking.

5.  I believe we have cards there (two decks if I remember right) ..... I have been trying to locate my cribbage board and so far have had no luck ...... I found it and set it aside somewhere during our yard sale and can not remember for the life of me where I put the damn thing.  Dave says I sold it.  No, I did not.    Grrrr!  lol

Peace.  J.

heheh, sweet!  i will bring the cribbage board then!  and maybe even the hand and foot decks IF we can get the guys to play.  (it's like canasta).

already planned on bringing our chairs, just in case.

i wonder if i should bring my swimsuit?  i wonder how it actually fits, even, heheh.

and should we bring our radio that takes batteries?  and some cd's?

Re: I Woke Up Looking Like Conan O'Brien!
Bring your suit!  The river is starting to drop rapidly at this point which means the swimming hole will be totally accessible ..... it more or less was when we came home this time.  I didn't think the water would ever drop.  I'm even going to let the dogs play in the river next time in.

Sure, bring your cd's ....... and radio ...... You and I can go and sit and swim at the hole and let the boys play ....... and then make them play cards with us damn it ..... lmao!

I'm soooo excited for company!  Just hope the refrigerator dude calls us back and will work with Dave over the phone answering questions ..... he's a nice guy, but he likes to make a buck too, ya know?

Peace.  J.

Re: I Woke Up Looking Like Conan O'Brien!
well even if the fridge isn't fixed, we'll load up a cooler with blocks of ice and some meat and stuff to bring, not a problem at all!

i'll bring my suit!  and the bug spray!  and the cards and the crib board!  and the music!  WOO!

if you haven't read my "general" post, our friend G is going to loan us his gold pan, heheh!

Re: I Woke Up Looking Like Conan O'Brien!
I've given serious consideration to chopping off all my hair lately, as it is I've been putting it up in an impromptu bun everyday and I end up looking like some crazy librarian.

Good news about the possible job. I've always thought how people work that out, working with animals, because generally a person only gets into that field because they love animals but the nature of the business is caring for mostly sick animals, so how do they handle it.  I'd say you'd do just fine, because you're such a strong person.

Re: I Woke Up Looking Like Conan O'Brien!
I'm much happier with the hair ..... just not the after effects of a nights sleep and the poofieness on top ..... lol ..... whew!

Thanks Josie for saying that.  I love animals sometimes more than people.  Bad to say, but true.  I'm hoping I can do it because it would just be too cool to work so close to home.  And with people I like ..... I love Art, the vet .... too.  We have a good relationship.

Peace.  J.

ConanOBrian.jpg Conan O Brian image by Cepster19hm..hm..hm.....he looks like a puppet...and no...we didn't have tv in our homes...not until last year did my brother get my father to set up a tv in our living room.

he'd let us watch movies though and educational programms....i still can't watch tv because the commercials drive me crazy....you get all into a story and then BAM....it stops!....what kinda sick shit is that?

Re: I Woke Up Looking Like Conan O'Brien!
See what I mean ...... scary ...... lmao

Your right ..... tv is some sick shit and I wish I didn't watch it as much as I do.  When I was born tv was still kind of a novelty ..... and anybody who was anybody had a tv set.  They made great babysitters back in those days and probably in some homes still.  But we only got like five channels total ..... maybe even four ..... where as today ..... crap ..... who can keep up?  Craziness.

Peace.  J.

Re: I Woke Up Looking Like Conan O'Brien!
I think the job prospect sounds fantastic!  I also believe that you will do just fine working with animals who may be sick or dying...because you are already well aware that you will encounter that situation - so it's not like you would be going into the situation blindly.  If you really think it'll be a problem, talk with the vet and your friend the office girl for tips on how to cope since it surely must be hard on them as well.  Good luck and let us know if you decide to go for it!  =)
