You have moved me my friend. You insights, your perspectives, your ambitions and intent to be an agent of progressive change lend encouragement to me and my efforts to make our world a better place, a more peaceful, more tranquil, indeed a more sane world than what we know it to be now.
The photo you see at my blog was taken in 1964 nearly a year after I was discharged from active duty. I was 23 then and had no idea of going to college. It would be more than two years later before I would enroll at a community to take one class.
Then it would be 11 years before I was presented with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree. My Master of Social Work Degree from THE University of Michigan was confered in 1982 when I was in my 41st year of life.
The GI Bill helped me enormusly in my long, long achedeminc struggle while dealing with alcoholism and clinical depression. You too will face your own struggles as you pursue your goals in life.
Very good luck to you, Eladio. You inspire me with your stated goal "...to become an activist against imperialism, war, and injustice."
Sincerely in pursuit of peace, justice and truth leading to happiness,
David Tecumseh Schmidt
Welcome to Mindsay, I hope your visit is long and enjoyable.
You'll find that Veterans here, are for the most part, appreciated and respected.
There are a few of us old timers; aka: Nam Era, floating around... Barb was Army,
and I was Navy - 8404/0000... HM3.
Like you, I also have a strong dislike for war, injustice and imperialism. It takes
a veteran to really appreciate just how ugly/inhuman the human race can be.
I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask, "Mother, what was war?"
